Tesco deep fat fryer recall - beware

We received one as a gift for Christmas, not sure where it was brought (probably near Swindon), but took it into our local Tesco Superstore in Tetbury, and a refund was given, no questions asked, I didn't even have a receipt.
Their policy states that faulty items should be taken back to the store it was brought at, but it seems that recalls are handled differently.
The link (http://www.tesco.com/productrecall/) even states to take the fryer to your nearest Tesco Extra or Superstore.
I asked at the desk what the problem was, and I was told that the handle mechanism won't hold under weight and will snap back down.
Only trouble now is, where they heck do you get a deep fat fryer for less than £14???? lol0 -
... I have had no problems with it, but yesterday I received a recall notice from Tesco asking me to return the fryer to a store or arrange for it to be collected by phoning them.
I gave them a ring this morning to arrange for collection but was told that as I had not bought it on-line I had to return it myself to the original store. To get to the store in question is a 50 mile round trip. I explained to the chap on the other end of the phone that it would probably cost as much to return the item as I would get from a refund.
Tesco are in breach of contract by selling an item unfit for purpose. You are entitled to be put in the position you were in before you entered in to the contract. That includes:- the purchase cost of the product
- your costs in purchasing the product - if you made a journey specially to purchase it
- your costs in returning the product - if you have to make a journey specially to return it
A kind word lasts a minute, a skelped erse is sair for a day.0 -

Not correct. Contractual damages put you in the position you should have been in had the contract been performed correctly.0
