Bought the fryer Dec '09. The Tesco website only says that the product is temporarily out of stock, the last time I looked. As you say, no mention of a recall.

The handle on the fryer we have is very dodgy, keeps buckling as you lift the food up. That might be it. How did they contact you?

My wife said she wasn't too happy with the handle. It could be something to do with that. I was informed by email.

If it's a safety recall, then they can't be too fussy where you return it to. I reckon any of their larger branches would suffice.

I seem to remember seeing a thread recently about Tesco having changed their policy so that you have to return items to the store you bought them from, can't find it though

Needless to say I wasn't very happy with this situation, but it appears all I can do is wave bye-bye to £13.97. and think twice about shopping with Tescos again.

If you received the recall notice by post because you originally used your Tesco Clubcard you will also see they have added a £5 off voucher for your replacement new fryer, thats a bit of compensation for you.

Yes, the postal recall notice does state that you have to return the fryer to the store you purchased it from.

  • I'm sure you live by a Tesco, they're like rats - never more than 6 feet from one. Take the receipt and take it to another Tesco.
They might but their policy is it has to be returned to the store where it was sold, not sure how an on-line transaction is returned but there were terms & conditions at the point of sale. Whatever notification you will receive should make it clear where the recall product has to go.
  • I have today just rcd' my recall notice in the post. If you can not return your fryer, then give it to someone who can.

My fryer was dogee; the handle used to snap / unclick when i tried to pull the basket out of the oil. I was actually burned on a number of occasions when the handle snapped and the basket went back into the oil causing a splash of oil at almost 200degC.

Also the thermostat on it was dogee as owt. Used to sometimes get that hot in there smoke was billowing out of it! and then sometimes it wouldnt even get hot enough to cook chips.

Although cant fault tesco; sending everyone a recall notice and even offering a replacement with £5 on top!

I always try and buy from tesco when possible. their returns policy seems to be "No quibble". I brought a washing machine from them a few years back and when it failed they just said we will pick it up and refund you; in the mean time you can either buy another one or go else where!

    Cant fault em.
