Thanks everyone
Officially we still have the interest to pay- about a fiver- I paid the balance down to zero.
Just a tip for the future don't get too excited about paying the balance at a particular time! I called in the morning and they said they would work out the interest and we didn't get a call back til late in the afternoon and typically I didn't hear the call (DON"T WAIT IN FOR IT!!), plus I didn't have enough credit on my phone to call them straight back when I got home the phone line was shut so that is still outstanding, it will be a struggle for me to call them tomorrow- I will try but I will have to be ready to leave for work with time to spare which is unlikely. We actually went in the bank to see if we could pay it in there and they weren't interested at all. I asked about if we could have an appt with someone to discuss the deeds and they said they said you can do whatever you want with them it doesn't matter. I also asked if for our own interest if they could let us know how much we could borrow should we want to in the future and they said no wait until u want to borrow it.
I remember a thread once where everyone was discussing how they'd pay off the mortgage and people were saying dress up in evening gowns and going in with loose change pennies etc, but honestly I think it would be hard to pull off they just transfer the funds from your account into the mortgage and thats it. So basically enjoy the day and don't worry too much about walking out of the bank with the amazing feeling because we certainly didn't get that anyway, that's my tip of the day!
Anyway good day had breakfast out, went shopping had an ice-cream in a haagan daz cafe which was rather expensive but good family day which is what its all about after all.
On the up also paid £2k off our barclaycard today which is due to start getting interest 5th october- so we must clear it next month. Will now be starting to pay off these other debts, will summarise at some point!! Got bit extra pay this month as some overtime came in- yipee, but likely from next month will be less as the pension will be kicking in...generally good dayMortgage November 2003 was £135k, but thanks to this website on 28/08/12 we became MORTGAGE FREE!

Well I called the bank yesterday and as I had to go to work they said they would just clear any interest from my current account. Bit of a non event really as they said they don't keep deeds anymore (shredded??) so I wouldn't get them and it would take 21 days to show on land registry. I checked my account and the 'interest' hasn't come out of my account yet and online when I click on mortgage it just says, 'we cannot display details for this account at this time', which it said yesterday evening also.
Anyway on the up, can get the credit cards down...Mortgage November 2003 was £135k, but thanks to this website on 28/08/12 we became MORTGAGE FREE!

we received something through the post saying we do not owe any more money on the mortgage, although they never took a remaining interest amount, oh well maybe it was too small?? no deeds to come tho we can get some documents from the land registry if we wish.
