Speakers fail after XP reinstall

It was recently necessary to reinstall XP pro on my PC from start ie formatting the drive. So I am going along reinstalling hardware and programmes. I have a 17" TFT screen with inbuilt speakers which are now not working. Through control panel the Audio setting say I have no device attached. All the hardware is shown as…

It's possible your PC installed generic ones when first loaded.

Look for audio codecs in device manager and right click > uninstall then reboot. Also expand sound and uninstall anything in there. Windows should pick it up on reboot

Make sure you have your motherboard CD inside the drive when it searches for drivers.
