Paperback books used to always be 20/30/50p here, but past few years its £1/£1.50/£3
Hardback books where £1/£2/£5 depending on the content etc now they are £3 min. and these prices are irrespective of book condidtion or how much they where/are in current shops as brand new. I dont mind paying for an almost brand new book, but not if i would get a brand new book for similar price in a shop few doors down. I wont pay a lot for a well thumbed book.
If you are struggling with where to donate old books, i would recommend hospice or hospitals, i have previously donated a few bags of books to the kidney dialasys unit, as they have to sit their for 8 hours at a time and not move, i find the books are well recieved in that unit. the people take them home to finish reading, some end up back at the unit, others dont, but at least they are getting readLiving Simply, not simply living.Weight Loss - 5b/55lb

Love that idea, LolaLemon:T. Will definitely check if any hospitals in my area have such units and if they'd like some.0 -
Well that's me finished 'Rich Dad, Poor Dad, and I have to what a fantastic read. It's changed my perspective on assists etc and once I'm debt free, there will be no stopping me.
I've moved onto 'Rich Dad, Poor Dad 2 - The Cashflow Quadrant'
Let's hope this book is just as good. I really want to get back into my crime fiction though, but at this time in my life it's probably better me reading about money and it giving me more encouragement to throw money towards my debts.
Sat down today and did my monthly account spreadsheets for both mine and the joint account. Things looking not too bad.
MrCFSaving for that dream holiday0 -

some doctors surgieries take them as well - I know of 2 here taht then sell them on for under £1, think one of the Dr's send the money to mawali, not sure what teh other one does .
Also churches/chapels /place of worship normally have a space for them, again suggested donation and money normally goes towards building funds /pensioners days out/ foodbank etc.

Our docs had a shelf of old library books that you could just borrow and take back but they started getting very sniffy when they realised people were adding non library books to share to it. The shelf has now been removed as we weren't using it properly! It never got overloaded and I only ever saw it half full at most. The books added were all readable general books nothing iffy so I couldn't ally see what the problem was.
A couple of our local pubs also have shelves that you can borrow from or add to as you fancy.SPC~12 ot 124

Our Doctors' waiting room used to be a pleasant place to wait with lots of frequently-changed glossy magazines. Sadly, someone has been going mad 'tidying' the place (they used to be on one coffee table in the middle and weren't bothering anyone) and now the table and magazines have completely disappeared. I asked the receptionist if they still wanted any magazines, I'd even got a carrier bagful of barely read Vogue, 'county' life and suchlike with me that my SIL had passed on. She gave me a rueful smile and said that the new Practice Manager felt that magazines were a health-hazard (sneezing people transmitting germs from their hands presumably:eek:). Jobsworth!:(. You have to wait so long in there that a quick read of a nice magazine was a big help0
