    Hi all

Anyone know why Anglian Water can justify charging 126.4p per cubic metre on my water bill I received today whereas in our old house we had Veolia whom I'm reliably informed are still only charging about 91p??

    Many thanks

Because Ofwat say its ok to do so, are the sewage charges more expensive than Anglian ?

Not sure what the current charges are but on my 2009 bill, Veolia's sewerage was covered by Thames Water and was about 51p per cubic metre which is a third of the 143p we're currently paying. Sheesh!!

Hate to say it but no water company has to justify any charges. It has been agreed with OFWAT so there is really nothing anyone can do about it.

Just thought I'd check this out as yesterday my elderly neighbour reckons we are being overcharged for our water, I'm not sure how to go about finding out if we are & how I do it but I dug out my last 3 water bills from Anglian Water. We opted to have a water meter fitted a few years ago now having heard that it is more cost effective. We are a family of 4 who live in a 4 bedroomed house, 2 bathrooms, have a dishwasher (which I tend to put on during economy hours overnight) & washing machine. The bill we received for the period 25/12/08-02/07/09 was £104.65 & our direct debit monthly payments up to then were £35, it stated that our monthly payments would be going up to £54 as from Aug 09. The next bill we received for the period 03/07/09-08/01/10 was £94.08 with monthly payments of £54 remaining the same until the next bill was due. The latest bill we received for the period 09/01/10-30/06/10 was a credit for £43.44 & stated that our revised monthly payments would now drop down to £37. Some of the readings taken on these bills state they were estimated and some read. How do I know if these bills are correct & if previous ones have been correct? Our neighbour reckons we are probably owed a few thousand pounds!:A

You need to take your own meter readings at intervals and check they tie in with readings used in the bills. The rest is a matter of arithmetic which they are unlikely to get wrong.

Why would you be owned anything ? Sorry I am slightly confused.

Payment plans run for at least 11 months so it is normal to pay a higher rate for that period if it has been set like that and it is then also normal for it to go down if the consumption drops.
Your consumption does seem low though, what is the last bill based on est reading or actual ?
As you had the meter fitted and I am guessing it started at zero ? whatever the reading is today is what you have used, a couple of est in among that will not make any difference in the long run.

Sorry but I have no idea where your neighbour is getting their ideas from but there seems nothing in your post to back that claim up.

Thanks for feedback, yes I agree, I just wondered if anyone else who uses this supplier had heard anything, thought it a bit strange. He is quite an elderly and accentric man so could be confused. As I thought with our monthly payments changing each time we get our statement they must be taking their readings correctly even if some are estimated.:A It seems from our recent bill/statement that previous readings were estimated but that the meter was actually read on 30/06/10
