Sorry but you are talking rubbish there

There is no need to be rude! My view is as valid as yours - and I have enough experience of water companies and how they work to be sure that generally meter readers will not have the time or inclination to mess about.

If you know how water company's work then you would know about there DG8 targets and how this affects there profit, unread meters and estimates hits there income and taken very seriously !

Meters are not missed out because of water, *possibly* ice dependant on how bad it is, this year has been toughest for many years granted because of the snow we have had.
  • deanos is right , there is a DG8 target and that means that the meter must be read and billed to an actual reading once a year. Snow , Ice or water .

  • can i just clarify something..... if everything is off in the house (although mains still on) should the meter still be clicking over as mine is slowly ticking off just wondered if it should come to a stop or if i have a small leak somewhere....

    apologies for interupting the argument!

No argument really, just a difference in views and posting styles I think.

Have your turned the house stop tap off ? Or have you just turned all your water using things off ?
I would turn the stop tap off and check again because it might be a toilet filling up ? or the overflow in the water tank ?
If however when the stop tap is off and it is still going around then there is a really good chance you have a leak.
First thing is to get a plumber, try your local council or even the water company as they can sometime off a company number in their area.
Some even have that info on their web sites.
But I would look first at the toilet and then the tank and go from there ( that is where a lot of leaks happen without people really seeing or hearing them) then check radiators etc

  • Thanks for the advice, toilet is fine and rads all OK as far as I can see as I keep an eye on this all the time, combi boiler so no tank as such but have in the past checked all sealed off connections and they were fine. If there is a leak between the meter (pavement outside) to my mains approx 20metres away across my front garden who is liable me or the water company? Also how would you check..dig up the front garden?

Thanks for the reply and yes good to have a healthy disagreement now and then.

If the leak is on your property..Ie from the meter to the property then it is the customers responsibility. The water company might help. Some do seem to offer a repair or fix but not all so it is worth asking anyway.
I am afraid that if the leak is in your front garden on the customer communication pipe then there might well be not other choice but to big your garden up.

If the leak was on the mains before the meter then it is the water companies ( but then it would not record on your meter) or if the leak itself is leaking then it is the water companies.

One thing to ask when you call is what their policy is about "covered" leaks, some offer a different thing if there is no way you could see the leak, ie under tarmac or concrete> This might apply to your garden so worth asking.

Your house insurance may cover both repairs & loss of water up to a certain amount.
  • Hi all

Anyone know why Anglian Water can justify charging 126.4p per cubic metre on my water bill I received today whereas in our old house we had Veolia whom I'm reliably informed are still only charging about 91p??

    Many thanks
