but people are desperate enough to sell to them! when i sold my car via auto-trader last year it took 6 weeks, and lots of people messing me about before i sold. i sold the car the day after the ad ran out (the poor bloke had organised to come a day or so earlier, and rang up panicking that i took the ad down because id sold already). I sold my car for £5000, WBAC offered £3000. I think a lot depends on the bodywork condition of the car, any slight damage and they dont really want to know...

    They are con artists.

Just scrapped my 1999 Fiat Brava, non runner (HG fail). They offered £50. Phoned the scrap yard down the road got £125.

Recently bought a Fiat Punto from Ebay. 2002 1.2 8V 45000 miles, FSH, no dents/scratches, for £900. Average used price for the car is about £1300 private according to Parkers and What Car price indexes and £1400 Trade.

Just to see what they would offer I put the info into their website. WBAC offered me £510, less £49 admin fee.

Why are they con artists? They made you a clear offer which you are not obliged to accept.

A 12 year old non runner is of no use to WBAC - what do you think they will do with it? It is no use to them for retail use and it will get diddly-squat at auction. It would most likely cost them money to dispose of it. The best they can do is take it to the bloke offering £125 - WBAC are not going to start stripping the thing themselves for second hand parts to sell on eBay, nor are they going to waste their time fixing it.

If you want to get a motor trader to roll about laughing, go into a dealership with your part-ex and say, "But the Parker's Guide said it is worth £XXXX!".

If WBAC buy the Punto with a view to shipping it out to Carcraft for retail, they have to inspect it, maybe do some work on it, MOT it, valet it, pay the rent on the premises, pay the staff and have something in the pot to cover the warranty they are legally obliged to provide.

They're not ripping anyone off, nor are they con-artists.

Although I don't like what they do, offering ridiculously low prices for cars etc, no-one is forcing anyone to accept their offer, there's no arm behind the back, or gun to the head. If you don't like their offer, simply sell elsewhere.

So they were making a heady £75 on the deal. Wow!

They would sell it on to the trade for £700. That trader would advertise it at £1295, take £1100 for it, have to service it, pay for their costs out of the profit and probably get £200 net.

    Whats the problem?

Their annoying adverts put me off enough

Why not try Auto Trader, eBay or Desperate Seller in future???

They are not con artists. It's really not a difficult concept?
