They still have to pay the auction fees
And?
(a) they wont be paying regular fees like you or i would be, given they could be putting 500 cars a week through auctions
(b) they will have a reasonably good idea what a car will make at auction, and will have bid the customer who they bought the car off accordingly.0 -
Morning, Declan.
Sorry mate, my name's Tom.
I'm an actual person who isn't affiliated with this lot, but have heard all the horror stories... it's very easy to search on the Net and find nothing but negative stuff, because whenever someone experiences half-decent service anywhere (Comet, PC World, Tesco, etc) they never think to post anything about it. However, if they were short changed by 50p in Tescos or they only got a 3 month instead of 12 month warranty from Comet, there's enough posts to make you think the companies are going to be insolvent tomorrow!
So yes, WBAC may well rip you off if you have a decent car, but if you're just looking to get rid quick they're OK...0 -
I don't know how I ended up being quoted as saying "they still have to pay auction fees".
Having worked in the Motor Trade for over 30 years (10 of those at Auction), I know they don't have to pay entry fee, the cars are probably collected free, and the commission they pay will depend on the volume of cars sold. They usually wait till all the cars have been offered to, work out whether cars that haven't reached reserve can then be sold.
They will usually waive the fee on scrappers, so the cheap rubbish costs them nothing to sell.

than the dealer I was hoping to p-x with. I didn't want to risk selling privately - heard too many scary stories!
One caveat, the dealer who I had discussed part-exchanging with (unethically) invoiced my car in to their stock (thereby releasing capital for the dealership to buy new cars). When webuyanycar.com checked on HPI it showed finance outstanding. Despite an email and a fax from the finance house (Lombard) to webuyanycar.com to say they had no further financial interest in it, wbac took a long time to pay us the money and it is almost impossible to talk to anyone who can help.
Overall, if it had been a straight forward sale, it would have been a very good experience.
Oh, and it makes interesting reading, getting an HPI check before you buy a used car!
Hope this helps!

They merely send the car they have just burgled off you to the nearest British Car Auctions site to be sold under the grandiose `UK Car Group` banner at a hefty profit thanks very much. And they don`t fix any of the faults they have used to decimate the price either – surprise, surprise!0

Do people expect anything else? They are a business - they are in it to make money. As many have said, they are the same company as Carcraft. If you are trying to get rid of something they can sell quick (low mileage family car, small hatchback etc.) you will do a little bit better. All the bangers will be bought for pennies and offloaded at auction.
The simple answer is if you want to make more money, have it valeted, put 12 months tax and MOT on it, make sure it has a decent set of tyres and stick it in Autotrader. If you want to shift a car quickly, sell it to a trader or the annoying advert people but don't expect top dollars.0 -
Why do they charge a £49.99 "admin" fee on top of whatever the offer is?
Why don't they just offer £49.99 less? I'm confused.0 -
same way they offer you £2000 instead of £1999 it sounds more.... Offer price and deduct charges after.

They are con artists.
Just scrapped my 1999 Fiat Brava, non runner (HG fail). They offered £50. Phoned the scrap yard down the road got £125.
Recently bought a Fiat Punto from Ebay. 2002 1.2 8V 45000 miles, FSH, no dents/scratches, for £900. Average used price for the car is about £1300 private according to Parkers and What Car price indexes and £1400 Trade.
Just to see what they would offer I put the info into their website. WBAC offered me £510, less £49 admin fee.[SIZE=-1]To equate judgement and wisdom with occupation is at best . . . insulting.
