Hi debrag
Are there any tenancy agreements for the property to show who was living at the address?
Regards
Colin @ ScottishPower
The old property, doubt anything is still around now. I was never on it. Partner and those two were on it, plus the son gf and kids at one point!0 -
I closed my account well over 18 months ago, yet randomly, in September, they sent me a letter saying I was in credit by over £400. Obviously too good to be true! I phoned them up and they apologised that they hadn't actually closed my account (despite me getting final statement, a rebate, by direct debits getting cancelled, and me moving to a completely different part of the country!). They said they really would this time, and that they'd send me a cheque! (still sounded too good to be true!) Naturally the cheque never arrived, but instead, I received another letter saying that I owed THEM £39!! I phoned up, they were less than helpful, and couldn't explain where these numbers had come from! I wouldn't mind paying it as long as they could explain it all to me - why 18 months late, why say they owe me, then I owe them, why my account was never close...TWICE.... It just looked like a random statement generator!
NOW, just a couple of weeks later, I get strong-arm letter from Insight Collections announcing legal action!
This is ridiculous, they can't explain their own statements, but are quite happy to get collectors in to do their dirty work0 -
Hi fireplaice
Sorry to hear about this and I apologise for the inconvenience this has caused. When accounts are closed you should be issued with a statement which confirms on the front that it is a Final Statement showing your closing balance. I am sorry if this did not happen when you provided us with all the relevant information.
We should be able to confirm to you what happened with your account and also what the final balance is, up to the point you moved out. The debt action on the account should be stopped immediately if we have made an error in not closing your account correctly.
Please let me know if you would like me to investigate this for you and I will be happy to help. Send the details to onlinecomplaints@scottishpower.com.
Kind Regards

Hi,
Thank you for your reply - I e-mailed the address you gave me, but it has now been 10 days and I have not had a reply. I have also not heard back from the letter which had been posted before then. I am obviously worried that Insight Collections have not been informed during this time and that further action from them is imminent.
Please can you advise further. I have contacted the energy ombudsman also as it has been longer than 8 weeks.0 -
Forgot to mention - I did get a final bill when I closed the account in June last year. The closing balance was £50 in credit, and Scottish Power sent a cheque - this is what is the most confusing. As far as I am concerned everything was dealt with in 2009 - final statement, and balances...balanced. This is all completely out of the blue, not an unfinished account from last year0

Don't worry about it.
A claimant won't get far pursuing legal action if they cannot explain the basis of their claim"Now to trolling as a concept. .... Personally, I've always found it a little sad that people choose to spend such a large proportion of their lives in this way but they do, and we have to deal with it." - MSE Forum Manager 6th July 20100 -
Hi fireplaice
I will be able to clarify full details to you tomorrow as I will be receiving full meter details which will confirm to me whether we finalised your account to incorrect meter readings or not.
Kind Regards

The thing that stood out for me is this
"it is very scary having people come to you door and write to you with threats and just so undignified"
Once people realise this people have no power, which is why they rely on threats and other dodgy tactics, the world will be a better place. I too found it difficult to understand the situation from the OP's post.
As a general point shouldn't there be some kind of obligation on power companies and banks to perform some kind of due diligence to ensure the people they are selling debts onto are complying with the relevent rules and standards? Or do they just flog it on and not worry about that?Mixed Martial Arts is the greatest sport known to mankind and anyone who says it is 'a bar room brawl' has never trained in it and has no idea what they are talking about.0 -
Hi,
I'm looking for some advice on how to stop ongoing harrassment from Insight Collections to do with a bill that has been paid to Scottish Power. I have spent numerous hours on the phone to Scottish Power customer services with no success in resolving the issue with Insight Collections and I am advising Insight Collection numerous times a day that the my bill has been paid to Scottish Power. It has gotten to the point where I'm thinking of changing my mobile phone number but really don't want to have to do this if there is any way to get this ridiculous situation resolved! Advice?
Thanks
Kathryn0 -
Hi KCarrick
Thank you for your email. Both accounts do have an outstanding balance and I will respond to your email to confirm details on charges and final meter readings used.
Kind Regards
