Agree with the consensus that you should give the gift.
When we got married (nearly 5 years ago) we asked for Ikea vouchers, which most people got us. Some people gave cash, some people gave other vouchers and a few people gave gifts.

It was definitely the right thing for us to do, but to be honest I can't remember who got us vouchers. But I do remember who bought us gifts and still think of them and the wedding day when we use them.

But I don't get the "contribution to honeymoon" idea - if you're going on honeymoon the next day, it's a bit late to be asking for contributions, isn't it? What do you do if no-one gives you any?

As we are paying for our wedding ourselves, we can't afford to save for the wedding AND for a honeymoon at the same time, so are planning to have a few days away in the UK immediately and booking a honeymoon/holiday for a couple of months later when we've got some more cash put by. If people love us enough to give us T/C vouchers, then we will use them to pay the balance rather than our own cash.

    Hadn't thought of that, floss2.

This is exactly what we did:D Had a couple of days in the Lakes at a very posh hotel(was for us anyway:o) almost straight away(couple days after wedding) and then with our guests contributions(my mum did a very nice poem saying we weren't expecting anything as their company was more than enough but if anyone did want to give us something we'd be very grateful if they could get us travel vouchers for honeymoon) we went on holiday to Greece later in the year:)

OP give them the present, if they want money they're gonna have to think of a better way to ask for it:D:D

That is so sweet of you to buy them a gift. I don't expect gifts from guests! If they decide to get us something, it is their decision. We'd prefer cash to help with the honeymoon, but I don't feel right asking for it.

We may put details of a gift list on our wedding website, so maybe will mention that we'd be grateful for honeymoon help on there as well. It's tricky to word, but I've seen some wonderful suggestions on here in the past!

    This is ours:

As we have a home filled with everything we need, we do not have a gift list. However, if you insist, Thomas Cook or Debenhams vouchers would be very gratefully received.
