They are quick to say if the item was from a smoke free house, not so fast if the house stinks of smoke due to 2+ smokers with a 40 a day habit who don't go out much :rotfl:
Dirty stinking b4stards, complain and send it back, or mention in feedback:)I came in to this world with nothing and I've still got most of it left. :rolleyes:0 -
bo drinker, could you possibly be anti smoking par chance? :rotfl::rotfl:0

put it in a bin liner with 2 tumble dryer sheets and tie the bag up. Leave it for a few days and it should cure it.0

I've tried to lay it out flat but every room I put it in I can smell it as soon as I go in. It is clean, it just stinks!!!! I don't want to have to wash it yet. Any suggestions? I'm about to have a hot bath with loads of lush products, if I hang it up in the bathroom will it help de-stink it ? Sorry to sound thick

You could try messaging the seller, politely expressing your disappointment. Who knows, you may even get offered a refund!0 -
I have heard that cat litter (clean of course
) will remove most smells if you really don't want to wash it.
Could you put it in a bin bag containing litter, maybe with a layer of brown paper to protect the fabric?
People have used it succesfully but I think that was for smelly books.
Other than that, I would hang it outside for as long as possible if you could get a dry windy day.
Personally, I would just wash it but take good notice of the care instructions.
I would also contact the seller and advise them of the issue.0 -

Cat litters great for dolls too, but takes ages, might work but doubt it will be good for cashmere. Fresh air or washing is the only way to remove from clothing.
I've never seen an Ebay listing with please note dogs, cats and smokers live with the items I'm selling.
I'd contact the seller politely they may issue a refund at least for cleaning.0 -
i had an experience like yours so i always ask now before i bid, if htey say yes i dont bid as even new things smell when theyve been exposed to smoke - yuck'We're not here for a long time, we're here for a good time0

Maybe new with tags but will still have 'other people' house smell on it!
I've had stuff that has almost knocked me sick with the smell of overpowering detergents, and just this week i've been accused of spraying an ebay item with febreze (when i haven't - i hate the stuff, i'm an aromatherapist! and wouldn't dare spray anything due to allergies)
obviously what the customer could smell was actually 'daz' washing powder! maybe she would have preffered me to send her a dirty unwashed item??
Now she's messed my feedback accusing me of spraying stuff! I don't understand how anyone can complain of any smells, or even dog hairs etc, when you are buying from people's homes. It's to be expected and can be resolved after sticking it in the washing machine anyway. I have some items of clothing with tags still on hung in a wardrobe which are no longer needed (outgrown baby clothes) I'm going to sell them, but will be stating that they have been stored with stuff that has been washed in Fairy so won't have a 'new' shop bought smell. If google doesn't know it, how should i?0 -
I have only once complained about a clothing item. Yes it was used but described "as new" "worn once" etc... Arrived and it had stains on the jacket! I immediately contacted the seller and said that it was stained etc I'd like a refund (it would cost more to get it dry cleaned than I'd paid!) - she contested it.... and won! Apparently as it was sold as second hand I should have expected stains though none we mentioned in the listing... Ebay then gave in to my long and legal letter (matter of principle! and I'm good at writing them!) pointing out that I was right and they were dumb... EBAY themselves then gave me the refund out of their own pocket and I negged the seller
