Just a quick update as I have just paid a couple of the credit card bills today. It just feels as though they are not going down quick enough, but I should be pleased that they are getting lower, however slowly. Since I have started this diary I have paid off £904.17 and not used a credit card at all. So the debt now stands at £33048.09, nearly under the £33k. I will work on clearing about £50 extra over the next few weeks just to get it under the £33k.

    Well done Welsh Saver..real progress:D

Sorry to hear re the hamster:(

Gorgeous day here today, took DS1 to the cinema last night to see Nanny Mcphee, which was really good. Today I have the day off, few things to do around the house and I am having my hair done, so a bit of pampering time :j

I have been reading a few blogs lately and I noticed that some people decide to put a percentage of their money aside as savings as soon as they get paid, so as I got paid this morning I have decided I will start doing that, I can then build up an emergency fund. So 10% has been moved over to the savings account. The postman knocked on the door this morning and I had to sign for an item. It turned out to be a £10 book token that I wasn't expecting, so that was a nice surprise.

Off to put some washing in the machine and make the most of this beautiful weather. Have a good day ;)

Think its a really good idea to have an emergency fund..even though there seem to be differing schools of thought as to whether you should have one if you have debts.. think it depends on your circumstances - I used to raid mine continuously in order to pay back my O/D..better now 1) I am more in control of our finances and 2) the money is in an ISA with another bank:rotfl:..it was all too easy to transfer between accounts with the same bank before..

They say most people are no more than 3 months wages away from destitution..which is a scary thought..and another reason to have an emergency fund..

It has been very busy here with Easter and DS1's 12th birthday. So not much chance to update, however I have been moneysaving and managed to get birthday presents at very good prices and DS1 was happy too. I have listed and sold a couple of items on ebay, but I must get listing more or have a car boot sale. Our total debt is now down to £32900.49, so have paid off £1051.77 so far since this diary was started. Still a long way to go, but going in the right direction.

  • Thanks Bluejeans I really needed that. I have let things slip badly and only been making my minimum payments. I couldn't even say how much the debt comes to now, which is not like me.

I have been thinking lately about getting an extra job as it would be really good to get this debt paid off. I work 25 hours a week to fit around school hours, but my husband working continental shifts means I cannot get a regular evening job in addition to my day job. So at the moment it seems as though any extra income will have to be home based.

I will go away and look at my debts again, time to get motivated...
