Which Car, 4 choices
We do about 4-5 thousand miles a year, I have looked and is confused, I basically can get the following cars for roughly the same price.
I have looked and in order of looks (how sad am I)
Corsa
Yaris
Hyundai i20
Peugot 207
Micra
Pixo
Which would you go for and why, BTW my wife likes the micra the best.

Well not the Corsa because firstly these are overpriced as its still relatively new model, and there are signs the price is crashing, also a lot on the road and won't hold value well
Not Hyundai I20 because the price was increased for scrappage alone, there is an order book and like the Corsa the market will be swamped with them once all our countries fine council estate specimans realise they couldnt afford a new car and the finance companies start reposessing them.
The Micra doesnt have the same nissan quality of previous generations and is quite an old model now. must surely be due a facelift. I would say no
The Pixo imo isnt a great car and you are overpaying for the concept.
I personally would go for the Toyota. Despite the media overplaying the recent recall they are quality cars and with the bad PR the dealers will likely be desperate to conclude a sale hence you will be in a good position. Exceptional cars as well.0 -
Yaris has been a good choice for us......... bought a new one when they were launched in 1999. 11 years later and 72 thousand miles and nothing has gone wrong, fallen off or given any trouble. 1 litre engine gives 50 mpg average. Slightly hard plastic interior trim is our only gripe.......we hired a Micra on holiday once and were impressed with the trim and finish of the interior. However , the new Yaris is much improved in this area also.0

If you want long term reliability forget anything that's not Japanese or Korean.
The Micra is one of the most underrated cars. Good ride, good MPG, roomy - if you can deal with the looks. The man without a signature.0 -

More likely weakness of sterling. (But some of the rise no doubt will be to offset scrappage)
I remember when the Japanese cars will still talked about in the same disparaging terms as the Korean cars
Wouls I buy one probably not! But I probably wouldn't buy anything else on the list either.
But it does come with a better warranty and shows the other manufacturers the way forward. Have they no confidence in their products?
The Toyota recall would not even bother me and would be hoping some folk might try and ditch them meaning some bargains there.0 -
Thanks for your time guys, some really helpful information
Wil look deeper into the yaris and also the micra, the i20 was surprisingly nice but felt plasticky.0 -
Another vote for the Yaris, all the other cars on your list are crap. Micra would be second on the list but it's generally regarded as a car for the OAP crew who do 40 in a 60 and 40 in a 30.553780080

Out of the cars on the list, I would definitely go for the Yaris. My dad has a Toyota Rav4 and they are solid. Never had a problem with it.0

Nothing wrong with the Corsa in 1.3 diesel or 1.4 petrol guise and like most Vauxhalls there's plenty of used ones 1-4 years old around for a massive amount off list.
It'd probably be my choice.0 -
my dad, partner and his dad have all worked with ars all their lives and would always say go japanese if you can.
and thats all i have to say on the matter."it's better than a poke in the eye with a pointy stick" - my dad, regularly throughout my childhood when I complained about something being too small/not perfect/not tasty/not what I wanted. he was right every time.0
