My sons a personal trainer, and he is going to help me with a diet plan when he gets back from holiday. He had a look at my food diary for a few days last week and said it looked good - no pie on those days lol. He says stick with it, it takes time. But then he is used to looking at exercise nutrition for serious gym users. Might add some chilli powder to my tea - Red pepper and potato soup approx 200cals. Don't like tea though. If I continually munch on veg throughout the day would that help? I read about making up a big box of low cal things, veg, dried fruit, seeds etc. and picking at it all day rather than eating proper meals until tea time. Not sure though that I wouldn't eat it all in the first hour.

Esther, thats the way to go then, use your sons expertise. Mass 'diets' including 'weight watchers', 'slimming world' and the like cater to the masses, and they have their place for people who like that sort of thing and can get motivated by it. But at the end of the day - and we are all out to save money, so please don't waste it on slimming products - what it all boils down to is eating sensible, good home-prepared, healthy produce, and staying away from processed, packaged, manufactured, chemical filled c**p.

Getting rid of anything that has artificial sweeteners - all 'diet' drinks, and anything with a list of ingredients that could challenge 'war and peace.' Strictly limit anything with saturated fat and trans fat, drink plenty of water, get plenty of sleep and regular exercise. Sounds easy doesn't it!!

One other thing, do not go into complete denial and live like a food monk, you'll end up resenting yourself and bingeing! If you have been good, have a blow-out every now and again - don't go mad with stuff dripping with fat - but have a few glasses of wine, garlic bread with your lasagne AND a pud! You will feel better for the treat, and it will kick-start your metabolism if you have been a bit restrictive for a couple of weeks.

Thanks for the support. I do try to have mostly home cooked food and plenty of fruit n veg. Drink lots of water. Just a little disappointed with the scales sticking in the same position week after week.

Welcome Sams 247, Healthy eating is far better than dieting so try and do a weeks food plan and go shopping for that only. Tell your new partner that although he means well puddings and choc have to stop as it is bad for you long term, and if he wants you around long term then he should understand.

Try writing down everything you eat, posting on here will help too, it helps see what you can change. Try and stick to the recommended 2000 cals a day and see how easy you find that before changing to much.

If you do get the nibbles at night then try a bowl of cereal or if you crave something sweet maybe a hot choc drink. Also veg dunked in low fat hummus or LF dips is better than a choc bar and can be taken to work.

Esther - you sound very postive and informed, I'm sure the weigh will come off soon enough.

    Today I have eaten:
B: 2 toast, spread with honey & peanut butter
L: left overs, 1 small lamb chop, 2 pots and some gravy
S: yogurt with tinned peach slices
D: probably going out so will try and stick to veggie / fish options, with a glass of wine (just to be social ;))

My weigh in is Monday and I'll need to be very good all weekend to have shifted my holiday weight, so the Davina DVD maybe out this weekend :D.

    Have a great weekend all.

Hi all, I'm new to this thread, used to be 8st 13lb and after having 3 kids in quick succession my weight has slowly crept up to 11st and I am definitley looking more podgy around the middle than I ever have lol but that is probably something to do with my biscuit obsession.

I started using the wii fit about 3 months ago and was doing really well eating healthily and going on it 5 times a week, but then I had a really bad stomach bug and was really weak from it for about a week and then had some bad news and that completely knocked me so just turned back to my bad ways and gave up on exercise :(

Currently I don't eat breakfast so end up eating chocolate or biscuits at about 11, then snack on crisps, cakes, biscuits during the day and my only normal meal is on an evening, although that meal is getting more and more unhealthy. I know myself I felt better back when I was exercising and eating healthily and that's what I want back really.

My partner is obese so I am trying to get him to lose weight too, all his weight is round his middle and we all know that is the worst place to have it health wise.

Any advice or support would be great thanks, particularly kid friendly healthy meals. I always make sure the kids eat healthily but think I'm so busy doing that, I can't be bothered with myself!!

Well, I guess I'd better shift my hefty hide and face up to the fact that I need to get healthy, so may I join in please?

I have been on more diets than books printed about them, have see-sawed in weight and have many excuses as to 'why I can't'. But, I started many years ago at 13st and said to myself - I do not want to be this heavy, padded down to WW and from that day to this......... well, I am now 20 stone. And my job is sitting all day, and my nurse tells me to get healthy soon or face type 2 diabetes. So, sitting eating a bar of chocolate for comfort, I decided I had better do something. That was amonth ago, my how the time plies. But here I am. I am hopeful rather than determined, and am going to try and be realistic (and honest). I know I'll do better with support than on my own. So hello all....

Two things - I also used to have ME and put on masses of weight at that time, it is very hard to exercise I know, and one of my (irrational) fears about exercise now is I hate getting over tired as it reminds me of the ME days. Logic says don't be daft, but mind says, rest, rest

And..... my partner is a 'feeder'. Anyone else have this? Bless them, no matter what diet I've been on, they buy me treats, and rewards, and chocolate to help me, and bake puddings and comforting cualiflower cheeses when I've had a down day, and sticky toffee puds for that late night supper with a DVD. It's a great and disasterous arrangement all at once.

I plan to weigh only once a month, to eat more healthily and to glean as much information as I can from you all :)

This might sound stupid but I thought ME lasted all your life? or am I wrong? Apart from that as exercise goes I always find myself having more energy and being less fatigued with regular exercise xx

Also I know your partner is doing these things because he loves you but you will have to tell him he can treat you in other ways and he can show his love much more by supporting you and not bringing things into the house that will jeapordise you losing weight. Do you mind me asking, is your partner overweight as well?

Hope some of that helped xx

M.E. can last all your life or in some cases can improve and you manage on less energy than normal but better than at the worse stage. Some people do get better or go into remission and it can return. No rhyme or reason to it.
For me I've had it years and have good periods when I cope better than the times I spend mostly in bed. Any exercise makes it worse. It is like your body is the opposite of anyone elses. I thought that swimming might be good because of the water supporting you, but felt so ill and weak after I went. Eventually it clicked that swimming is suppose to be such a good exercise because it excersises every muscle in the body. For me it was the worse thing I could do. So frustrating because exercise is a mood lifter. I have had to learn to pace myself.
    Anyway, enough of that.

Could you have a small amount of cereal for breakfast, even if you can't stomach much. Then have a banana a couple of hours later. This way you may be able to cut out the chocs and biscuits at mid morning.
Even a yoghurt and some fruit?

    Welcome Smiler,

Sounds like you need to eat with the kids and have that health food! Can you do a day time planner so that you can structure eating, play, work etc?

Has your partner become obese or has he always been heavy? Does he take sandwiches to work or buy things like fast food?

Try writing down what you both eat (honestly) and see what a week consists of then use this info to plan a shopping list reducing all the bad things so that they are not in the house. Is it so much easier to miss an aisle out at the shops but much harder to resist opening a cupboard at home stuffed with biscuits / crisps / choc etc.

Thanks for the info on ME I honestly thought it was just something that people had forever, I wasn't being nasty or anything I just like to be well versed on how this can affect someone when commenting on exercise etc

I'm not averse to breakfast just can't seem to be bothered lol

My partner was very healthy up until being about 16 when he started working at kfc and since we got together when we were 19 and had kids his weight seems to have got worse, thing it if I bring anything like biscuits into the house and say we'll just have one as a treat he will eat the lot, he has absolutley no self control. He lost quite a lot of weight doing weightwatchers just before our first child was born but I don't really want to go back to that cause we were relying too much on the ready meals. He is quite good with lunch he usually has a sandwich and 2 peices of fruit and then has weetabix and banana and raisans for breakfast. Think it's mainly portion control with our evening meal cause he always makes out like he's still hungry and also snacking on an evening when kids have gone to bed which we're both really bad for (another reason I liked doing wii fit on an evening cause it stopped me snacking!!) Thanks for help xx
