OP, why have you got 2 routers on your set up? The wireless Netgear can still supply the ethernet-connected PC's.No free lunch, and no free laptop

Ah, just re read your first post, please confirm you are on cable.
If so forget the line stats.
Problem is more likely to do with your choice of wireless channel. That gum you like is coming back in style.0 -

That was DH's latest idea to 'fix' the problem! He wanted to try having the wired and wireless on separate routers (insert confused smile).
He is going to try changing the channel now. Annoyingly since this morning's reset the problem has not reoccurred (DH also removed the Zone Alarm as I was blaming that).

Virgin do a lot of 'traffic shaping'. This might affect your router so that it 'drops out' on the traffic change:idea:0

Thanks for that RIK - that would explain why it is worse at peak times like Sunday evenings. I don't download anything (mainly because I don't know how to!) but OH does. We are on a low level package with VM.
Doesn't explain why it did it at 9:30 this morning and has been all right today (I have not been here much to use it); I wonder if I have more than one problem occurring. The birds of sadness may fly overhead but don't let them nest in your hair0 -

If hes downloading then its around 9:30 that the shaping sometimes starts
Id recommend he keeps his downloading to nightimes only, if he MUST during the day then set the upload to a much lower limit:idea:0
