Good morning Techie community, I need your help to restore harmony in the Dusty Household.
Our internet connection is shocking, really unreliable, works and then for no apparent reason just drops out. The only way to rectify it is to unplug the power from one of the little boxes and replug in.
I'll give you what details I can
PCs are running google chrome
They are regularly virus checked
Provider is Virgin Media
Modem Anvit E08C013
Net gear wireless router WGT624V2
wired router Net gear RP614V2
Zone Alarm on main PC
Avira on my pc
Laptop - not sure what is on there.
Any ideas greatly appreciated.

Are these connection problems purely wireless, or do the problems also exist with a fixed wired Ethernet connection...0
-
Sometimes it is all the pcs and sometimes just the ones on the wireless. Often the main pc is not on during the day (DHs one) and my pc and the kids laptop won't work. It tends to be worse at busy times - evenings/weekends but can happen at anytime. The birds of sadness may fly overhead but don't let them nest in your hair0

But just to clarify: you are saying that even those machines with a fixed Ethernet connection experience the same problems ...0
-
On the whole it is just the wireless ones that cause a problem. I know that is not a helpful answer but I don't want to mislead you. Trouble is the wired pc (actually I have now found out from OH the two wired pcs) is only used by OH so not used during the day. He does not have as many problems with his.
Another thing. When I put my pc on standby, when I turn it back on it will often connect and be fine for a couple of minutes and then drop the connection. The screen icon thing will say connected speed 54 but I can't use the internet/email.
Since I reset it this morning it is now working but I'm putting it on standby for 20 minutes now and then I'll see what happens and as the wired one is on I will be able to tell if both are affected.

Do the machines have built-in wireless or do they use wireless usb adapters...0

Does any of the info in this thread help, if at all related...0

The Laptop has it built in. Mine is using an adapter at the moment but it does the same thing if it uses it's built in thing (it is a bit better with the adapter).
I'll get OH to read the other thread in a minute as I can't answer - thanksThe birds of sadness may fly overhead but don't let them nest in your hair0 -
Try changing the radio channel on your router.
It would help if you posted your router line statistics as well. That gum you like is coming back in style.0 -
Penrhyn - how do we post the stats please and I'll do that - thanksThe birds of sadness may fly overhead but don't let them nest in your hair0
