Weezl, did you sort out the spreadsheet last night? Had a quick lookie at the one in the workspace and it seems to have the changes I made to it in there. Perhaps they don't do what you wanted?
Am nearly happy with mine, it's a bit short on protein and heavy on carbs at the mo.
It's also a bit light on fibre, but I have a target of 25g for me and 38g for DP which is very diff from the amount posted here. Got it from Googling, but can't remember which site at the mo, will have a look later
Edit it was from the same place as the Omega 3 link, here the RDA part is right at the bottom (no pun intended !!)0 -
Poohbear, Allegra, frankie, ariarnia, artybear (howlin, hornetgirl and shanks I know you will be adapting things and following along in your own way so I wasn't sure whether to include you in this question!)
and anyone else I've missed (cheese rinds!) Please answer the following question:
If you were going to begin this on wednesday, when would you need your shopping list by? I'm assuming we will shop weekly, and that the first week may be slightly more money than a quarter of the budget to allow for buying some of the bulkier items and seasonings etc... All the items should be available from asda, if you are using other supermarkets it's possible you may need to shop around a bit. Going to another shop looks like it should only take you a max of 10% over budget.
My little Asda is ten minutes walk away, and we break up for Easter on Wednesday, so no rush for me. I'm afraid I haven't done the batch cooking guide as yet though - I was waiting for a finalised mealplan before diving inIs that gonna cause people problems, or are we all experienced enouh here to give it a bash guide-less and then I collate what we do as we go along for Shirl's benefit ?
Incidentally, I also lurked on the 50p challenge (although I believe I did manage to post a couple of times), and yep, I love Dr Who, too, as does DD. David Tennant is a hard act to follow, but we'll be rooting for the new boy, especially as he's a local boy0 -
Hi all, just off for another sleep. Not feeling good today. Might you be free to do a bit of spreadsheet later Lesley? I can do after 7 or possibly later this afternoon if this eve didn't work, or on monday at 10 ish?

Wow Sian you sound like a great cook-I think i would like to live in your house if it means getting fed that well lol!
Thanks, I think the phrase may be 'experimental'
You're welcome for tea anytime!<cough> - err...wondering why not? Umm....presumably none of them were vegetarians then?
(recalls a thread elsewhere where a veggie's husband hadnt let on that his family were feeding her odd "meat" items - chicken stock? cant recall what exactly? - by the end of that thread I suspect he got his divorce papers served on him...would have if he'd been mine...)
I didn't have any veggies around for tea; I am generally very accommodating of my friends and I would never force someone to eat something they didn't like let alone something they disagreed with on principle. One of my friends hates cheese with a passion and we accomodated him with a calzone pizza all to himself. I'm quite friendly really, honest! The reason I didn't tell them is the same reason I don't tell people if I make a courgette chocolate cake, people's preconceptions taint what they think of things. I don't conceal them and would say if they asked but I won't volunteer it either if I think it would affect their enjoyment of their mealSian have you got any lard left? I wondered if you might try a halved batch of these at some point?
No lard left but can get some more very easily
I assume these are fairly solid given that is the only non-solid ingredient? Like a shortbread? Will have a go in the week.
Hope you have a good sleep, look after yourself won't you? :grouphug:God is good, all the time
Do something that scares you every day

I can do after 7, see you later then, sleep on0 -
Hi, Still havent got through all the posts and dont know if the link to the meal plan at the beginning is what the current one looks like, but was wondering if a lentil pate may be a good alternative to some of the houmous sandwich days? We usually make up basic lentil dhal recipe with lentils, value stock cube, 1 onion, tsp herbs, bit of curry powder, then when it cools down it will set like pate. Cheap, tasty and nutritious. Possibly one for a vege planner?
Also I see there are quite a few posts about carrot cake, I made the eggless one, but didnt use the milk powder as listed, there was no oil on recipe, wasnt sure if it was a error, so i used soya milk to bind it all together, this was then vegan and fat free, and ohhhh so tasty, im going to cook one up now!it goes a bit like a bread pudding!0 -
Hi all
Slightly more human now. We all here at weezl towers have had a D and V bug for the last 4-5 days (apart from Kester (which I am sooooo pleased about) and my poor body coping with that so soon after labour doesn't quite know what's hit it!
2 naps today has made a world of difference so it was great that my DB came this weekend
Anyhooo back on topic:o thanks all for the thoughts, duly noted, I shall do more thinking and return to some of these thoughts :A
Lesley, 7 is great thanks so muchI'll ping you the spreadsheet I've been tinkering with since yesterday, and shall we use the chat facility we used t'other day?
and to everyone, I think after Lesley and I have spoken we'll be in a much better position to say whether we are all systems go for thursday. If not, then I was going to suggest tuesday, so people have time on the bank holiday weekend to bake some bread, do a batch of apple curd, that kind of thing?
Not seen ariarnia for a while? Hope you're ok and that we can get you things in time, I knew she was offline during the weeks, but I thought she'd be around this weekend... If you're there ariarnia it'd be great to know how to get stuff to you so's you dont get left out
frankie I've been debating these loaf tins in my head... part of me feels it would be great for you to have 4 as I think that makes a batch of 4 much easier to do, cos they all need to go in the oven at the same time, and loaf pans make that much easier than hand-formed ones on their own trays. IYSWIM?
But it's an outlay for you which I'm keen to avoidI have 2 non-stick loaf pans here, it would only be a couple of quid to get them to you in time, would you feel ok about giving me your address? I don't use them since upgrading to the silicone ones...

Whenever you start is fine for me. As I'm not doing the full month I'll just work things in where I can. Asda and Sainsbury are both only a mile up the road - opposite each other - so easy to pop to if I am missing anything. I normally shop at Tesco on a Monday, but will be Tuesday this week, I'm quite flexible when I'm not working (which is most of the time lol).
6 mini eggs for my extra 90 calories is fine!!0 -
Hello everyone
I'm really only posting so I can find you again. I've been on this site for quite a while but don't post much (big time lurker). I also go where I'm nice and comfy and the vibe is sweet and kind. I'm only a quarter through this thread and I merely dipped in and out of the 50p one but I get what you're trying to do. If I may though, I'm amazed at the kindness you're showing each other. What the collective is doing takes patience, love and tact and you lot have it in spades.
I have to say though, I gave the onion flan thing a bit of a bash yesterday. I've never ventured into quiche-y things before now and I have to say I'm fair puffed out at my efforts (that's my trumpet you hear blowing). I loved it. I put some rosemary in and it was divine:T. I've gone even further today and made another, only I kinda ran out of flour so used (hated) fine oats with the flour to make up quantities and added some SP bacon trimmings and I've got my lunches for the week, all for pennies!
Thanks for the inspiration. I'd love to do the carrot cake but the thought of all that oil yuck.
good luck one and all
