How about butternut squash as a possible sweetcorn substitute, Weezl ? At the moment it's 10p per 100g in Asda, with the frozen sweetcorn being 9.6p per 100g. Beautiful in a soup, great as a vegetable, don't think it would work all that well in sweetcorn fritters, but if you are axing them anyway....?

Incidentally, I have tried your no-knead bread a couple of days ago (having acquired the necessary loaf tins at last). I produced a glorious row of golden-coloured bricks :o Never had that happen to my bread before !

Ok..I have added the pate etc.. to the index for the first month. Do you want me to add Mr Aless's savoury bites or are they still being tweaked?

Alsoly was there some sort of bread you wanted me to add?I cant remember, sorry.:o I dont know how you keep track Weezl! You must have very quiet, placid children!!

I just wanted to say that while we haven't actually tried the Sweetcorn Fritters we did all like the Spicy Baked Bean Curry.
Just thought I'd throw my opinion in there. Of course whatever you end up keeping, we'll eat ;)

I'm going to offer the paul Merrett to shirley as well.

I tried the Paul Merrett bread as rounds on a tray and it worked very well.

Yes, there were several pieces each side that you couldn't use for a sandwich but we just had them with soup, so it didn't bother us much

Hey arty, Mr Aless' savory bites are for planner 3 (and probably can be in planner 2)

the bread for planner 1 is called 'bread of heaven' in the usual place, and the oaty enriched loaf is for inclusion in planner 2. actually, perhaps this will help..

    Back in a tickie :)

oo did you get pressies weezl! Good that you had a sleep - I just had a long one (2 1/2 hrs) ...bliss and now off for a cheap n cheerful celabratory supper wth lodger and friend who just got a very good job!
Snacks sound good. Re the bread being brick like I'm wondering weezl if were just used to a more solid bread maybe? I love the no knead bread and really wouldnt be a@sed wth linger one but ready brek one was lighter than no knead...Re ovens...they always vary! My best mate has a supa dupa one that incinerated food when I cooked in it as mega hot compared to mine...scared the living daylights out of the girls as fire alwrms went off...tried to appease them with hunky firemen coming to the rescue but they didnt get the value in that!!

  • Sorry, I put my stuffing results as an edit into my original post, but of course the thread had moved on.

    it said :

Right, the results. It was tasty, almost fruity and filling. The proportion of onion was way too high in ours, but iirc, smart price onions are small and mine weren't :-). Something I would make again with more things in for us, and in B+S land as is.
