SKIMMED COW'S MILK
Calories per pint: 195. Fat per pint: 0.5 grams.
Skimmed milk contains 0.1 per cent fat and about half the calories of the full-fat version. However, even though fat is removed, it still retains most of its nutrients.
In fact, skimmed cow's milk contains slightly more calcium than full-fat milk because calcium is found in the watery part, not the creamy part.
So if you water it down be aware that you are actually making it harder for yourself to get the nutrients such as calcium. It is not that the 'evil supermarkets' want to ruin our lives by stealing the fat. They know that most people want to have a lower amount of fat but that it is still important to have those nutrients, especially for children and for women who need to prevent osteoperosis.
Thanks for that.
Well - I wouldnt put it quite like that;) re the supermarkets:D. I'd just read that in some other countries skim and semi-skim milk come cheaper than full-fat milk. In this country, however, they are skimming out the fat (as thats what some consumers want them to do) - BUT I think I mighta read somewheres that they then use this fat for other things. Waste not - want not and all that - but they (not we) must be getting the financial benefit from that usable fat IYSWIM.
I can't imagine that the fat isnt being used elsewhere for something by the supermarkets (which I agree with in principle) - in a society that even deals with the waste disposal of a poisonous product by shoving it in some of our toothpaste and throwing it in our water and telling us that its good for our teeth (ie fluoride).0 -

I came on to see if there were any veggie meals that hadn't been tested very often. Is there a way of finding that out?0
