I know it's really none of my buisness, i've done my own thing and am happy with my decision, but please,please,please.... If you haven't put your first choice of school on your form, regardless of your child's score, please change it before the deadline. Think how you would feel if you hear a lower mark gets accepted and you hadn't applied because you thought your mark was too low. You won't get accepted if you don't apply. We are all in limbo we can't tell what anomolies will occur this year. Apply apply apply. And tell all those parents at the schoolgate. You owe it to your child to have a go. Good luck everyone.0 -
OK.Opinions please!! We are seriously considering reversing our second and third choices. It was a big debate before we filled the form in and now we are having second thoughts. The problem is our son wants it left the way it is but my OH and I think his decision is based on the wrong reasons (he is only 10 after all)!! Unfortunately due to having the flu, it was the one school we missed the open night for (BRA) and we took a tour instead during school hours. Son didn't think it was as exciting as there was not the buzz that was there on the open nights of the other schools that we were able to attend. I really feel that if we had of attended BRA open night he would have loved it. I went to it last year and was very impressed plus we have family connection with BRA and this person LOVED her time there. His other reason is that the majority of his friends are going to the other school which we currently have as second (BRA is third choice)although there is one or two going to BRA. I just don't know what to do...son at one point had decided to put BRA second but in the end decided to put it third and the other school second. There will be more travelling involved with BRA but I believe they have the travel side of things very well organised. Both are good grammar schools but in my heart I just believe BRA is the better school. Can I have advice please? Does anyone have opinions on BRA or Carrickfergus grammar? What would you do? Would you go against your child's wishes if you thought it was for the best? I just believe that he will LOVE BRA once he gets there. As his first choice of grammar will be borderline, there is a very good chance that it will be his second choice that he gets into. Principle of BRA has already told us that he will get in with his score. ANy opinions would be very welcomed and appreciated.0

Forgot to ask...does anyone know the process of changing order of choices. Do we have to go through the primary school or is it directly through AQE??0

Oh deep joy Kingston, that is all you need.
I think we all know that the school open nights are there to draw the kids in. They show all the fun stuff, provide all the nice stuff to eat etc. You see nothing but the absolute best aspects of the school. What you don't see is the every day drudgery ie the hard work, the homeworks.
We ended up looking at Campbell 3 times (it was on the 3rd visit without the frills that we formed a different opinion) and Methody and Wellington twice. I have to say that I got a better feel for these schools outside of the open nights. We only went to Grosvenor (1st choice) once as we were in and out of there for the tests etc and seen it warts and all.
I know time is of the essence here but is there any way he can see Carrick and BRA again? That way he can compare like with like (sort of) instead of the open night thing.
Both are great schools in my opinion.
Don't know what I would do in the situation. We were really lucky in that our child paid no regard to where his friends want to go when making his choice and we totally agree with his choices.
Good luck in sorting this all out.0 -
I assume its DENI or the Education and Library Board. Not actually sure.0

Thanks Ex Spendaholic, its so hard to know what to do. I may try taking him to see Carrick Grammar during the school day if I can get it organised, that is a very good suggestion. Do you know the procedure for changing the order of choices?0

sorry posted before I read this. Thanks again :beer:0 -
Actually I would be about 99% sure its the ELB. Give them a ring first thing in the morning.
My son put Methody as 2nd choice. No-one else in the school put it down but he liked it. As its a fantastic school, I'm well pleased at his choice but it is odd that such a sociable child with so many friends went for something different than his friends. I agonised over that a bit. Wellington seems to be the top choice amongst his friends.0
