Hi again can anyone tell me if more or less did these aqe tests in comparrison to the old 11+ many thanks

You need to go back to the start of this thread and read all the messages, there are lots of references to the questions you have asked.

Is 97 good enough for grammar school, it very much depends on what grammar schools you are interested in and if they are usually highly over subscribed. Some principals are saying that is probably is, others are being very cautous because the problem is NOBODY REALLY KNOWS!

Less sat AQE than 11 plus, but there is much more information way back through this very interesting thread.

I wish AQE had just issued a grade instead of a mark. My son and his friend both did very well (top quintile) but my son got 2 more marks. Now the friend is saying he really did better because he is 7 months older and has lost marks because of his age. They both got excellent results and that should be the end of it.

Each grammar school will differ on what score will be good enough. As I mentioned before Larne Grammar Head advised pre-test that he fully expects a score of 95+ to get a place and 85-95 to still have a chance. Now in previous years Larne Grammar have taken C grades in old 11+ - so you can see were he is coming from. Although no-one knows for sure.
In regards to age standard standardisation, this link http://www.nfer.ac.uk/nfer/research/assessment/eleven-plus/age-standardisation.cfm has a bash at explaining it (although can't say for sure this is the method AQE used). If you can understand it, pat yourself on the back!!!!.
  • Just to remind people that today is the last day to request a form to apply for a remark. You do have a little longer to actually return it but you need to request it today.

AQE are closed all of next week so if you have any queries I'd be ringing them now.
  • Ni mum I agree with you. It is going to be really gutting for the kids if their friend gets in to their preferred school with one mark more than they have.

'P7 teacher' in this forum comments on the influence of age on the final age adjusted score in GL. I suspect it maybe the same for AQE. If all younger children are lifted into a higher band by virtue of age this will displace others. I think AQE should also have issued raw scores. Does anyone know what the influence of age has on final score in GL for a July vs. June birthday with the same score. When and how have these templates been created and are they definitely applicable. Are any other teachers out there surprised by the rank order in their classes at present, with younger children in the class being placed above or alongside other older more capable children for the very first time. Do we need to review the issue of age adjustment now that we have seen the GL raw scores. Again this is addressing the issue of the magnitude of the influence and not the principle of adjustment.
I have heard that 2 children with a raw score of 24 the one born in july august with come out with a score 115 and the child born in may june will come out with a score of 130 hope this helps
  • does anyone think that if you get a remark the chances of it going down are high my daughter got 97 and 1 mark would put her in 3rd qintile and therefore a better chance of getting into a grammar or am i just grasping at straws!!!

This table suggests that the difference is only a few marks between the youngest and eldest. Of course we don't know what method AQE used. Do you think they'll ever tell us?!

It is the score that matters not what band they are placed. The banding is really only for illustrative purposes and to help you guage were your child was placed comparative to all others who sat the test.

I am guessing AQE have stated that a remarked score can go down as well as up to avoid the potentail avalance of remark requets. I would be amazed if they actually marked down a child (but I suspose it is possible!!)
