  • Ex Spendaholic - Probably Methody, Friends or Wallace (still undecided) - a mixed sex Grammar first choice anyway and then Victoria second or third.

Other parents who had similar choices in other schools were told that the intake of MCB/Friends/Wallace going to be so similar that it was wasting 3 choices as if one couldn't take unlikely that the others could as their intakes are usually so similar - so will probably pick 2 of them max and Victoria and not sure on the rest!

But as with all these things - speculation and rumour - as no-one knows until the applications were the rank order of scores is going to fall!

Let you all know if I get any nuggets of 'useful' info.

We are putting Grosvenor as first choice and then listing Methody, Campbell, Wellington and Inst (not sure which order yet). May also stick Sullivan on for good measure.

Are you not limited to the number of schools you can put down?

I thought it was just 4 or maybe 5 schools in the list?
    Jim.
  • There is space on the form for 5 schools but as far as I know you can add others too if you wish. I'm pretty sure I read that on the guidance. I'm at work so don't have the stuff with me at present.
  • I just emailed B R A and their headmaster told me that not under any circumstances would any grammer be able to tell anyone what band they would be able to go down to as they just don,t know how many applications the get as 1st choice and how many others they have to accept that get turned away from other schools. I have give up my child now wants to get on with her everyday schoolwork and forget about this whole process untill May 28th. I tend to agree. Good luck everyone
  • I hear that a child from Brooklands Primary in Dundonald got a score of 129 in AQE test!
  • I personally feel that all this talk of 'this child got this, this child got that' is making the situation harder for the kids and making those children with very good scores of 100+ feel that they havent done well enough.
Whatever school our kids get into surely we should be more worried about how happy they are in that school than if its the school WE want for them.
Moving out of Primary school is surely hard enough for them without all this added pressure.
I am extremely proud of my son for the effort he put into it all and i know that wherever he ends up he will make the most of it.
  • I totally agree but I also think the Minister for Ed should not be allowed to get away with this. Her thinking seems to be that if we all say nothing, and she says nothing, we will all go away when what we should be doing is thinking of all the kids and their parents who may be in our shoes next year. The way we, our children and school staff have been treated is a total disgrace. The only thing this has done is drive an even deeper wedge between those who have and those who have not. Lets remember why we are all members of MSE in the first place!
  • I may be able to clear things up a bit, I've been told if you use this formula you can work out if your child will get into their first choice school.

Take their score and multiply it by the quintile group they where placed then divide that by the month they were born, you then divide this number by the number of children who took the test in their class multiply this by the number of places available in their first choice school and then add 3.1467, convert this to a percentage or grade and cross your fingers until May.

I've been told of a girl who got an A in the GL but her percentile score was 56% so not enough for Victoria's first band. It looks like GL gave an A to almost half of those who did the test.
