how do you survive unemployment

I think I pay in less than 2 months what I would get if the worst happened, it seems unfair I agree.
In a way, you should count yourself lucky. Surely its better to be earning so much that your tax/NI contributions for 2 months is more than JSA for 6? Some people are livingon the edge all the time. After 6 mnths of contribution based JSA, you go onto income based, so again if your income or savings are too high for that, in a way you're one of the lucky ones: many people have to live on benefits alone.
It's a bit similar to those people who complain about paying into the NHS and not getting anything out - be happy if you never see a penny back of what you pay into the NHS. The alternative where you get your moneys worth is less enviable

Believe me I know I am fortunate to be on a decent salary and that I am able to save to protect my lifestyle if the worst happens. It hasn't always been like that;) I have had my lean times too.
I do feel that people who earn decent money and pay in huge amounts of tax and insurance should get an earnings related element of JSA, you used to but it was canned in the early 80's. Even if you got a decreasing amount for a year it would soften the blow from a large paypacket to £60 a week for 6 months. Although it's possible to insure against redundancy it's not something that most people can afford as it is realy expensive.0 -
Moan and nag at your other half for not earning enough. Or dump them and shack up with someone who is richer.
When have stay-at-home OHs ever been considered 'jobless'???0 -
Being frugal and not buying things you dont need to survive like sky, mobile contracts etc
Its surprising how much you can survive on if your brought up on pittance. Even when you have some money it makes you think how lucky you are now
The main expense are, housing, food, energy costs, council tax (possible) which take most money upjadeyfamous wrote: »how anyone can live on min wage or anything less than 20k a year is beyond me!0 -

You seem stressed out and i know how you are feeling, ive been there before i became self employed, But i beleive you get better if you get the right mindset if you dont mind me saying,
We all know finding a job at present is a daughting task, And if your Girlfriend is working then your one away from the Gutter statement is quite a Feeling, but it wont happen if she loves you.
My best advice is check the website entitledto.com and set up a budject, plan our outgoings and find out whats costing you the most, for example if you have a mobile phone plan on contract thats costing 30 quid a month downgrade it or if you can cancelling it, thats 30 extra a month, get rid of sky tv if you have it and plan your weekly shop, my partner and myself plan 25.00 pounds a shop a week (100.00 a month shop asda or lidil)
Its all about cutting back, take out one by the things you can live without and building a income to a limit that will help you not be stressed, if you cannot manage your own money get a personal advisor, i presume you can anyway
hope that helps"MSE Money saving challenges..8/12/13 3,500 saved so far :j" p.s if i been helpfully please leave me a thank you but seek official advice at all times from a pro0 -

How rude! :insertanysmileyjusttotakereplyuptotencharacters:Gone ... or have I?0 -
My husband was made redundant ten months ago and hasnt had a whisper of a job since despite applying for hundreds. His entitlement to JSA finished a few months ago and he is entitled to zilch, nowt nothing. I am working all hours to keep our heads above water, beleive me its hard. What I find the most insulting thing is he still has to pay his hefty prescription fees although he has no income!!!enjoy every day, you dont know how long youve got!:o0
