  • Does anyone know how you find out how much Housing and Council Tax Benefit you get in London? I'm looking at a room in a flat in Plumstead, £300 a month (plus bills) and band c (belongs to my housemate's boyfriend, which is why it's so cheap, he's just looking for someone he knows rather than a lot of money) but I don't want to commit to it if it turns out I won't be able to afford it if I can't get a job straight away. Like I said, he's a friend and I don't want to let him down.

If you go to the local council's website it'll tell you what Local Housing Allowance you can get for your circumstances. As you're under 25 you'll get the shared room rate.
Unless I say otherwise 'you' means the general you not you specifically.

I put in that you'd be getting jobseekers and it said your rent would all be paid. You wouldn't have to pay CT either.

    Hi beanie!!

I've painted the walls in my shower room as well as the ceiling now -looks a whole lot fresher, even though it is the same colour as was on there before.

I'll think about doing the skirting boards and the door in a while.....fit to collapse for a bit first!

Brilliant! :j :j :j I checked it myself and can't find out how to tell if I don't have to pay CT without knowing how much it is, but I trust you. :) I'll send Dane a message and ask about viewing the place.

I like the look of Soller, but it's expensive to stay there _pale_ and a bit too far transfer wise :( It's well over an hour with a shuttle service each way. The north generally looks really lovely.

Looking for somewhere non-British with a quiet beach. Bars which are small and local run with small but good quality restaurants. Bus stop nearby as we never hire a car. No more than 45 minutes transfer. We don't like 'posh' resorts, mostly because that pushes up the prices inthe bars but similarly we don't like the really British resorts where everywhere just sells fried breakfasts and cottage pie.

Not looking at Magaluf and Palma Nova looks similar. I have emailed about 6 owners so far. The nicest one had availability showing but he hadn't updated it.......Cala something on the east coast.

There's lots of hotels or large complex style self catering available that is really cheap but we prefer self catering to being tied to meal times or going out for drinks etc and the extra space an apartment gives. It's just a bit of a surprise how early the season starts there price wise!

What's Alcudia like? I've found a place which faces a lake but is only 150m the other direction to the beach.

Edit: funnily enough just had an email back from the place by the lake.....510 euros between us. Also had a beautiful, large apartment with a big roof terrace with beach view in Palma Nova but I would need to research how British that is these days.
Yes,Palma Nova is like a smaller Shagaluf-I'd give it a miss...Blackpool with sun...Alcudia also is a big Brit resort, lots of fish n chips, although a lovely marina area and some nice Spanish restaurants, but quite a long drive from airport..I don't know the NE coast particularly well, not much in the way of marinas round there!Cala d'or is also a big brit resort-and caters for such..I know you said Soller is expensive, but there are lots of small hotels there, and since the motorway opened it's a much quicker journey..I would say sub 45mins (just).also have a look at San Telmo, very spanish, nice beach, and about 20mins from Andratx for a posh night out celeb spotting! Have you considered the ity of Palma itself? Plenty to do there, also Porto Colom is worth a look, as is Porto Cristo . Cala Ratjada is a very "German" resort. Do let me know if you see a particular place! SRM xx
