Does anyone else not go on holiday

  • Holidays are overrated. They are stressful, don't live upto your expectations and expensive.

Personally I don't like staying anywhere that has worse facilites than we have at home, so as that means money and more money we don't tend to go.

My DD has only been on two holidays with us and she is 12. She does go away to Butlins with Grandma most years - although that seems to ahev some to an end now.

It depends on your priorities, I know I would hate camping it isn't for everyone and I would rather spend the minimum £700 for a week in Butlins on other things and haven't got the £2500+ it would cost for the holiday that we might enjoy (although if the past is anything to go by we will feel let down)

When I was a child we went away for a fortnight every year - every year I resented it as my friends weren't going away and I felt like I missed out.

We do day trips etc and spend days together - you can have loads of fun going to an orange wednesday and a picnic etc. it is important to spend time together as a family as if you are on holiday, though.

We dont have many holidays, the money we could save for all year round for a holiday is used for treating the kids all year round. My hubby had a holiday abroad once a year when he was a kid and that was it, he got hardly anything for christmas and nothing for his birthday, he were awful clothes and he said he had miserable time at school because the money was kept for the holiday.

We did have a holiday a couple of year ago abroad for 2 weeks and I enjoyed it but wouldnt be in a hurry to do it again.

We are going to London for 4 days/3 nights in April, with thanks to other fab MSE's I got 2 travelodge rooms (Ive 3 kids) and Ive used tesco vouchers for tower of london, madamme tussards and a bus tour. Im going to use some more Im due for planet hollywood and maybe bella italia. Ive got train tickets with a family railcard so its not been too bad.

We would rather spend it taking them swimming, ice skating, out for meals, cinema etc.

We have been camping as well, you can do that cheaply.

I too think holidays are overrated, a lot of money for 2 weeks away. If you get a nice day, a day by the coast with a bucket & spade and a picnic is just as much fun, if not better. You get to go home and spend the night in your own bed (Im a home bird ;-)).
  • We have three dogs and haven't been on holiday as a family since the third one arrived. Kennelling is very expensive so we go on separate holidays. Sounds daft, but it works for us.

DD2(12) and I had a City Break in Paris last year. OH is always going abroad with work and tends to have a couple of days off whilst he's there. DS1(15) is going to Spain at half term and DD2 is going to France and Belgium in Summer. So we do get away, but never together which is a shame.

You cannot live as I have lived an not end up like me.

Oi you lot - please :heart:GIVE BLOOD  - you never know when you and yours might need it back! 67 pints so far.

First holiday abroad OH and I had together was on our Honeymoon last year.

We can't afford a huge chunk of money every summer to go away on holidays. We have had a few British based hols - static caravans etc but now we have 3 kids, we tend to go on lots of day trips through the summer hols. Much easier to manage, and keeps the kids doing something different every week.

Me and my girls went away 4 years ago on a Sun Holiday to Yarmouth. Last year we stayed with my sister in Bristol for a week ( during the Harbour Festival) and had a great time. This year I have an op scheduled so no holiday.

Last year when I started working again after a few years on IS we talked about a lovely holiday abroad but my girls said they'd rather have a week in a caravan in Yarmouth again. Hopefully we'll fit that in by the end of the year.
Sadly, you don't have any badges yet but keep trying! See what you could get........... oh boo hoo I am crying into my wine. :D

Mine have never been abroad, I am scared of flying, and we cant afford school hoilday prices, however we normally go away about 6 times a year at half terms nad the school holidays thanks to the travelodge £9 and £15 rooms, we ahve been so many places and are off to liecester next weekedn to see the space centre.
I think holidays ar important and build life time memories, and you can do them if you dont mind sluming it a bit
Always on the hunt for a bargain
  • Im another one who has never been abroad, we also have pets who come with us when we take our annual holiday. There was not a lot of money around when kids were younger so only had a few holidays.

We do now have one holiday a year by the coast but would be interested in how susieb above arranges her travel lodge expeditions?

I have never been on holiday (i`m 28)
My parents never took us as my brother had special needs and we couldn`t take him or get care for him.
I have been with my DH since school (1996) and we have continued to not go away.
It has never bothered me as i suppose i dont know much different BUT we now have 2 children and i dont want them not going or experiencing a break so we will be going on holidays once a year when they are older.

If you cant afford it then dont do it thats my saying - right now big flashy holidays would wreck us and rake up debt so not a benefit for children really.

In may we are off to butlins for a week 1st time away from home. I`m only going for the kids and cos i got it cheap :)
Tempted to do the sun holiday next yr or use tesco clubcard x

We used to go to stay with MiL....three kids, a pile of bedding, air mattresses, a big box of food so that she wasn't out of pocket ,a 6 hour car journey, then a week's worth of criticism and carping about 'children today'. WHY did she invite us?

After eight years of that a wet week in a caravan (courtesy of the Sun offer) was amazing.

Our best holiday, the one they still talk about was the summer we stayed home & spent the days on a blanket in the local parks. Huge picnics, balls, frisbee, bikes etc etc. On wet days we went to the museum, art gallery, library etc, borrowed videos from friends, had friends for meals or were visitors ourselves - just did all the things there's not usually time to enjoy on school days.
I can cook and sew, make flowers grow.
