I think we turn the actual TV bit on for the rugby, so it's going to get a fair bit of use over the next few weeks. The rest? The kids turn it on once or twice per week for nature programs but they prefer their computers and dvds. I sit in the lounge at night and watch dvds. None of us ever settle down for a night of TV viewing, except in a very rare blue moon if there's a special program on. The day the satellite dish falls down is the day we stop watching telly as far as I'm concerend. 99.99% of it is total rubbish anyway and the rest you can get on the PC.
    Val.
  • I am not bothered about TV and never have it on during the day at all.
When I lived in Spain we had no tv and when in France we had not TV.....except for a week over Xmas when someone lent us one....we gave it back after that week as it was rubbish;)
We listened to the radio and I didnt miss TV at all.
I listen to Radio 2 usually but may investigate Radio 4....now I do feel old:rotfl:
DS would never ever cope with no Cbeebies though so cant get rid of TV
  • Both my car wireless and my home wirless are permanantly tuned to radio four ,or if you are as old as me the 'Home service' I love music but not on the wireless. I listen to cds for that, the good thing about it is you can knit, sew, craft, cook or even do the garden if you have a little wireless on beside you. Radio four is brilliant with plays in the afternoon and comedy at 6.30.p.m. plus of course Womens Hour and so many documentries.I have been an avid Archers fan for years and if I miss it during the week I always have it on Sunday mornings to catch up.I do like watching t.v. occasionally but during the day I always have the wireless on as a companion to what ever I am doing

I like Radio 2, and have it on when I am about during the day.

Can't recommend any radio programmes, but you could do what i do and watch tv on your computer,as long as you have a tv licence!

As as already been said that is totally and utterly wrong.

You need a TV licence only if you watch live feeds. So have TV tuner card in your laptop/PC and watch stuff as it shown on the TV.

If you use the catchup players you do not need a licence. In the future who knows.

We have been TV free for about 9 years. Don't really miss it. Love having the bbc iplayer as you can down load and have a month in which to watch it. And you can watch what you want when you want it :j

We have dab radios in the living room and bedroom. And listen to BBC7 it has all the classics like hancock, dad's army so if you don't listening to the news then that is the channel for you.

That's it! I'm moving house. Iplayer and dab radio is the way to go by the sounds of it.. It will be years before I can get those here - if ever. City living here I come!

Not sure where you live but I bet the views are stunning.

Something I would rather have than dab radio and the iplayer any day.

I live deep in the country and I've got your sheep and your fog Downshifter. But we have broadband. MeanMarie, I think we married the same man. I would LOVE to spend my days listening to R4 or R7 or Classic FM....instead of which I have 197 decibels of drivel from 6pm till midnight. I SO hate it.

Thank you to Butterfly and everyone else on this thread. You've helped make my mind up.

I am going to get rid of the TV. If I need to view anything I will use catch-up sites but i doubt that will happen often.

I will try some of the recommended radio programmes.
