Yes. I spend most of my spare time on reading newspapers and surfing the internet.I can totally lead a life without TV.

  • Hi all,

Recently I've been talking to quite a few people who don't have TVs for one reason or another, the main one being that they refuse to pay lots of money for rubbish and repeats.

So I was wondering; how many of you don't have a TV? Personally, when ours dies (and it's 11 years old, so could be any time), I'm not replacing it - it's not worth it and I'm sure we/I can find other entertainments!

If this has already been done, please merge it - I searched but couldn't find anything :)

We have a TV but only use it for DVDS & games. We did plan on getting a TV licence but other things had to be payed for first and as time went on we realised we didn't miss it.

Surely if you watch TV on the internet you still require a TV license?

    Hi v8monkeyboy,

This earlier thread has some thoughts on living without a television:

    Is anyone else telly-free?

I'll merge your thread with it once you've had some more replies.

When I moved into my flat I couldn't afford a TV, got back into reading (rejoined the library) and listening to the radio a lot, managed for 18 months. Then a mate from the US came over and commented on it and the day she left I went and got one! When this one eventually dies might do it again.
At least the fish fingers are still frozen, that's what I keep telling myself (Truly Madly Deeply)

I wouldnt choose to have one.
Feudal Britain needs land reform. 70% of the land is "owned" by 1 % of the population and at least 50% is unregistered (inherited by landed gentry). Thats why your slave box costs so much..

We don't get a TV signal because of where we live, equally, we don't get mobile phone reception unless we go across the road, on a good day with the wind in teh right direction and the planets correctly aligned!
I thought I would miss it, what would I do without my soaps, and all the other crap - but in all honestly, its great! It took no time to get used to!
I now watch only what I want / am interested in on catch up, rather than having something on for the sake of it, (catch up doesnt require a licence, only livestreaming which i never do) and my days / evenings are not planned or dictated by whats on the box. We also have a BIG PC monitor with full surround sound for DVDs and games.
Meals are more interesting because we do that old fashioned, outdated thing of "talking" whilst eating, rather than sitting in silence watching a program, and also power cuts dont ruin the plans!!!!
When we sell up and move, I won't be getting a TV, I simply have no need for one. Radio 2 rocks!
