Need to access my mums PC remotely

I use Crossloop too, I'd recommend it.0

Logmein - free and great, and no action needed by the other party once you have installed it on their computer and set up a password. You can even get a version where you control the remote computer from an iPhone.0

As far as I remember no File Transfer available on LogMeIn. It is really good though. I usually use TeamViewer0

Another Crossloop fan here, use it to do long distance fixes for most of the family's PC and laptops. A real boon...“When I was a boy of fourteen, my father was so ignorant I could hardly stand to have the old man around.
But when I got to be twenty one, I was astonished at how much he had learned in seven years.”

You have to open up ports on the router with vnc/tightvnc/ultravnc or initiate a reverse vnc connection, and they aren't encrypted by default, which is why using a 3rd party server to authenticate the vnc session is easier/more secure. Crossloop used to be based on tightvnc, but they now use ultravnc.!!

hi, I dont know if this is possible or not but thought I would ask. Right I have a PC at my house and brought my elderly mother a PC at hers (both laptops) we both use TalkTalk. Can I access her PC remotely from my house when she has a problem as trying to talk her through how to do things is proving VERY long winded so me accessing it and taking control would certainly be a good option.
IF there are any ways of doing it I would be grateful, the less she has to do would help the situation even more.
Thanks in advance for any help offered, if it cant be done no worries at least we get free phone calls (as it takes ages)

I used to use Logmein, but I now use Live Mesh which is a Microsoft development using Windows Live. Don't let the fact that its in Beta put you off, I've been using it for over a year, and it allows file transfer, which the free logmein doesn't. You just download it and set up a "Mesh" on the net, and then just log into the mesh from the other computers (or talk your mum through logging into your mesh) and join the mesh. As with all Windows Live stuff it's best if you have a Windows Live login (Iuse my hotmail address). You then have complete access. It's very simple to install and use. You can also use it on a phone (although I haven't tried that function).

I've used tightVNC which seems to do the job, other VNCs are avaliable

VNC uses a weak encryption protocol, so i'd at least be tunnelling it over SSH or some other form of secure protocol when using it to connect to machines over the internet.0
