  • I hope he did have the foresight to leave one 'off site' as even the base of his beloved leather sofa was cut open last year by the dear daughter looking for something.

    Sorry about the loss.

On the will side - maybe check with the future wife? If he said the house will be going to you then I think there will be a new will somewhere. I think hang on in there and keep looking at the moment.
  • This person affected is my brother and I would like to thank you all for your kind words to him in this very difficult time. I am sure he takes comfort in your support.

Just to echo what someone above said: keep looking.

I would find it strange that he had 7 years and hadn't bothered making a new will if he really disliked his daughter so much.

But if he definitely hasn't then unfortunately you may just have to walk away eventually :(

I would certainly contact his wife-to-be, or maybe the other lodger should do that, as he probably met her out in the phillipines. he may have made a new will out there - you never know.
do you know the name of his solicitor? doesnt hurt to ask them if you do.
as for the tenancy agreement, why do CAB say its worthless? surely it gives you some rights? I would talk to Shelter about this ASAP.
lastly, please accept my condolences, you have not only lost a father figure, you have not been able to ensure his wishes were adhered to. just do your best hun, I am sure he would be pleased at the effort you are making here.
and as another poster suggested - be careful what you say as you dont know who may be reading this thread!

I agree with Errata, if this chap really did dislike his daughter as much as you say, he would have ensured a safe copy of his will excluding her was lodged with his solicitor. Perhaps he felt guilty about cutting off his grandchild, if not his daughter. Blood is thicker than water.

Move on, knowing you did what you could, let her have the tainted money and take with you a belief in karma.

Well - if shes THAT into looking in the strangest of places - it does look like she might have "scoured the house clean" in terms of looking everywhere possible then...

So - in that case...its down to looking for outside sources as to where he might have left a newwill then.

For her to come into the hospital like she did and "have a go" at him and search as hard as she has would seem to equal that SHE certainly thinks there is a new will somewhere or other...

agree with you there ceridwen - which is why i think it likely that the old chap may well have made a new will where he KNEW she wouldnt find it - phillipines possibly? the only prob may be that it names his fiance as his wife, which didnt happen, but i am sure that could be sorted out!
failing that then from what poster has said i doubt the old gent hid it in the house! so would look outside! dont want to say more than - can OP think of any places the old gent frequented outside the home?

i Just had this thought - errata will prob correct me if i am wrong, but, even if his daughter is a beneficiary, the house does not belong to her yet! not until probate is granted. which in my experience can be a few months. so, I dont think that she can legally throw you out or put the house on the market yet.

I think you're right Tan. However, as the lodgers can move into a caravan, they're not happy in the house now and the evil daugher lives next door, I can't think why they would want to stay in the house.

I appreciate that the daughter has apparently treated her father very badly, but as he was still young and fit enough to travel back and forth to the Phillipines, build property there and consider marriage, I can't help wondering why he didn't tell her to behave herself.
.................:)....I'm smiling because I have no idea what's going on ...:)
