d77. I would be interested to know what car you have, i am intrigued now, I love older more interesting cars. I think the Scrappage scheme may have helped, but personally, I would never buy a new car, no matter what it was.

I too am intrigued about an early 70s car that has "environmental protection" and what exactly that entails! :D

The only environmental protection my 71 car has is that its sufficiently noisy to scare critters away before they get splatted :rotfl: that said though, it still does nearly 40mpg....

I have a 1973 Chevy Nova with 52,000 genuine miles on the clock.

She runs on unleaded (which wasn't made mandatory over here until the 90's) and being made in California has all sorts of environmental and efficiency devices on her such as EGR, a closed fuel system that even burns the fuel vapour given off in the fuel tank, plus other things which I can't remember as I don't have my Chiltern's guide with me. A lot of these things didn't appear on cars over here until the late 80's at the earliest. My old '94 Celica didn't have EGR. The only thing it hasn't got is a catalytic convertor, I think they were introduced in '75.

It has other cool things like the A/C can have different temperature air coming out of different holes (ie warmer in the footwell than on the screen).

What is your '71 car? I think i'd like the sound of your critter early warning system ;)

1971 Morris Minor Traveller with a Big Carb and lairy exhaust! :D Had some other modifications too and for a 1.1 its scarily quick! (I've out-dragged a 2.0 Saab 9000 turbo in it)

Heartbreaking, the car was hardly run in at 70k.:cry::cry:

It was inactive. It was the only car he has ever named aswell (Erica). Beautiful sleek blond girl. But when you added up the things which needed work, the hood needed replacing, the seats all needed replacing, the gears had started to play up - even sadder though, it had never failed an MOT ever.

Well, my OH was virtually in tears parting with his 1981 BMW 320i Bauer convertible with only 70k miles on the clock. But bits had started to play up and whilst many people would knock on the door asking if the car was for sale, none would have paid £2k for her. Very sad to see her being taken away with a scrappage sticker on her though.

I know exactly how your OH feels. I appreciate you posted this earlier and I'm a bit late in 'replying' as it were but...I had a BMW 318i Touring 1993 K reg, 123k miles and in black. Adored it but the bloody camshaft started cooking and then was finally cooked for good. Tell your OH I share his pain...

To be honest, I'm not sure. All I know it looks like a big Morris Minor and has the stick out indicators.

Like this one I think. Can't remember the air bulge in front of the window, and I'm sure my Dad's has a split windscreen and the rear window is more like an oval.

...Just found this. This is the type my Dad has

well we as well will be waiting probably anotehr month for a new car. narrowed down to 2 and i have told one garage what price i want to pay including what extras, he is getting back to me tomorrow.

I am asking for 800 off plus roof rack, mats and fuel and he still says he cant do it, but with scrappage they are offering 1900 plus the 1k government allowance so a total of 2.9k off.

I will tell him where to stick it i think lol.
