I would want 2 Fiesta's for that kind of money.
You obviously havent seen the quality of the new Fiesta. Lets put it this way, its a hell of a lot better than any other small / medium car at the moment, including the BMW 1 series.
The amount of people I hear compliment it! They dont believe its a Fiesta!0 -

It could be gold plated, I would still not pay that amount of money for a Ford shopping trolley.
How do you know that it is " better " than any other small/medium car, it hasn't been out long enough to make a judgement, other than from the hype.0 -

lol shopping trolley??? You must be having a laugh! If you were talking about the mk5 then yes I would agree.
The MK6 was a decent car, and the MK7 is quality. Its nice looking, reliable and jam packed full of features. I have the Titanium version which is more like a mini executive car.
I wouldnt say it was Hype. Just read any review on the car and you will see its one to be reckoned with. Namely Clarksons review, and youtube video putting it through its paces!!!!0 -

The scrappage scheme was only put in place to help out car manufacturers through the recessionary period. Because this scheme exists (for the moment) does not mean that:
a) older cars are death-traps, unroadworthy, worse than new cars.
My car is a 1973 model car. It has probably done less miles than a lot of people's cars on here (unless the have an 04 plate or newer) and is in excellent condition. It has features, including environmental protecting, that were not even present on my last car which was built in 1994.
b) that they are doing this for the environment
Again, there are things on my '73 car that were not introduced in this country until the 90's. Also many environmental protection agencies state that it is better to have and maintain an older car than it is to buy a new one, as the biggest carbon footprint is the car's manufacture.
c) People may not be better off buying a new car.
Even taking £2000 off the price of a new car still leaves a lot to pay off, which some people may struggle with. The car will still depreciate quickly. Newer cars may have significantly higher tax than a similar size older car due to post 2001 cars' tax being worked out on CO2 emmissons.
Scrappage is only there to support car dealers and manufacturers.0 -
d77. I would be interested to know what car you have, i am intrigued now, I love older more interesting cars. I think the Scrappage scheme may have helped, but personally, I would never buy a new car, no matter what it was.
I appreciate that if the 'price to change' is right for you and your old car is never going to reach £2k in a private sale then a new replacement might be an idea.
I just hate the thought of perfectly good older cars being scrapped, there have been some examples of classic cars being forced off the road, what a shame and sacrilege to see that happen.
Also, the end of the Scheme will see more availability on the second hand market which in turn will re-invigorate the used car market considerably, there is a dearth of decent cars out there right now."If you are going through Hell, keep going" - Winston Churchill0 -
Well, my OH was virtually in tears parting with his 1981 BMW 320i Bauer convertible with only 70k miles on the clock. But bits had started to play up and whilst many people would knock on the door asking if the car was for sale, none would have paid £2k for her. Very sad to see her being taken away with a scrappage sticker on her though.0

Heartbreaking, the car was hardly run in at 70k.
