Thanks for your help, Will the MOT station let the car go if it is not road worthy?

Do you think it would be legal to tow the car with a 4x4 to the location with a tow rope?

Yes they will let it go, and they do so all day long utherwise there yard would be chock full of failed cars by the end of the day.
No one can impound your car except the police.

And it will not affect the insurance as your car just needs to be legal for the fully comp part, and driving to and from the MOT is legal.

And for the third party part they cannot decline a third party claim whether the car is road legal or not.
  • I always think if in doubt check it out properly. You can't turn round to a police officer and say "but I asked on a forum" I would contact your insurance company and ask their advice and if necessary contact DVLA. By doing this you are 100% sure you are covered legally for your own protection and that of others. Not worth taking the chance if your are not sure, even if the journey is just a short one anything could happen. Personally the negatives of what could and I say could go wrong are just not worth taking the risk.

Yes, you can take your car away if it failed an MOT but I believe you have to pay for it again if it is not fixed within a certain period of time. Perhaps someone else could clarify that for you.
  • If I was in your position i'd book the MOT, make sure I was insured and 10 minutes into the drive to the MOT station find myself broken down on the driveway of where I want the vehicles to be..I'd then contact the garage and tell them the vehicle had broken down and there fore I was unable to get to the MOT and therefore cancel it.

The cars are a jaguar and a focus, i just dont want someone thinking they cars lie there and the keys must be just inside the house and attempt a breakin.

I just found out that i have breakdown cover with my bank so i was going to try and say to them i broke down visiting my dads house or something of the sort, i have a battery that is goosed round the back. So i was going to fit that, and hopefully the guy would say its ur battery ull need to buy a new one and give me a tow to my house... Guess i can only chance my luck?

Thanks for all your help though, alot quicker response on here than other parts of the forum.

Even if its being towed the car must still be insured, unless all its wheels are off the road, i.e. on a flatbed trailer.

Sell one car as it is, and use the funds to make the other one roadworthy, no point having two cars sitting depreciating, is there?

If you mean you cannot drive them due to the cars not being legal as long as you pre book your MOT test you are legal to drive directly to the test centre.
I don't imagine the OP's house is a test centre so how would this help?
