Be careful if getting an upgrade from O2

I spoke to someone at the beginning of January asking when I was due an upgrade on my phone. The lady told me that I could order one then and did I have a phone in mind. I told her which phone I wanted and she explained that the tariff i'm on there would be a one off charge of £20 which would appear on my next bill. I was happy with that and ordered it, she went on to then explain that I would receive a loyalty discount of £6 a month on my tariff so we agreed everything and a couple of days later I got my shiny new phone which I love and think it's the best phone i've had so far.
I got my bill today and they have charged me £200 for the phone, so I have spoken to them and they are going to listen to the call with the advisor I spoke with to see what she explained to me and what the costs would be and to make sure I fully understood the costs. They will then get back to me with their decision.
I'm fairly confident they will change the bill and knock the upgrade charge off as there is no way in this world I would agree to pay £200 for a phone and I wrote everything down about the £20 and the £6 discount and the advisor has just got it wrong.
I would advise to anyone speaking with O2 about an upgrade that you confirm the costs with the advisor just in case anything like this happens to you.
This is the only time i've ever had a problem with O2's service and i'm sure it's just a mix up.

In fairness o2 have very good customers service in comparison to most other mobile providers.
Mistakes happen, but the moral of the story is, trust no one.My farts hospitalize small children0 -
They may be reasonable in comparison with other providers but O2 were phoning me two to three times a day (while at work and in the evening) trying to get me to upgrade and commit to a new contract. Was getting very annoyed and frustrated with them (all seemed to be south african - has the call centre been moved out there?) but after about 2 weeks of rejections they got the message and haven't heard from them since0

Doesn't sound like o2. I've been with them on and off since they were known as Cellnet in the 90's. I've never spoken to an offshore call centre with o2.
Sounds like a third party, claiming to be o2. I've only ever had these types of calls when I have been with 3 or one2one / T-Mobile.My farts hospitalize small children0 -
I've never had O2 ringing me either and i've been with them about 5 years up to now.
Like dreamypuma say's mistakes happen but I still think O2 are the best service provider i've been with and hopefully we'll sort this situation out without a problem. Everyone i've spoken to have all been English and I know one of their call centres is in Bury.If At First You Don't Succeed, Call It Version 1.00 -
I guess I should have clarified that it is O2 Carphonewarehouse rather than O2 direct but I have never received the kind of bombardment in previous years when coming to the end of my contract (been with them since about 2004).0

It is not surprising, recently o2 insulted Nobel scientist
Nobel winner not worthy of phone without deposit
http://www.telegraphindia.com/1100201/jsp/frontpage/story_12051688.jsp
Nobel laureate Venkatraman Ramakrishnan feels he has been deliberately humiliated by the mobile phone company O2 which treated him less favourably than most customers by forcing him to pay a £325 deposit and refusing to budge even after he had explained he was an established scientist with an impeccable record of paying his bills.
“I am actually slightly suspicious that there is an element of racism at play here as well, since I can’t think of a logical reason why I should be denied credit,” said Ramakrishnan, who shared the 2009 Nobel Prize for chemistry, worth $1.4 million, with two other scientists.
The problems began on December 2 last year when Ramakrishnan, a US citizen settled with his wife in Cambridge for the past 10 years, went to a city centre O2 store to buy the highly recommended iPhone 3GS black, 32 Mb.
Ramakrishnan had no difficulty with the young white assistant who served him but the store’s manager insisted he would have to pay a deposit if he wanted the phone. Customers considered credit-worthy are not usually asked to pay such a deposit

Not quite sure what the fact the assistant was young and white has to do with anything but thanks for sharing :cool:If At First You Don't Succeed, Call It Version 1.00

Truthman, based on the information in this post, do you honestly believe that these are the full facts, and racism was at play?
If so then I pity you, and having seen your previous posts I can understand why you get so much stick from other forum members.
What has his Nobel Prize got to do with anything? (Flipping name dropper... No Class)
There are many things that can affect your ability to get a mobile phone. Yes he has "settled with his wife in Cambridge for the past 10 years" but what has this got to do with his credit history?
Yes Equifax have confrimed that his history is excellent. What does that mean? It isn't blemished? Maybe there just isn't sufficient history?
I doubt a credit reference agency is going to reveal his details to the press for validation. So who is saying it is excellent? The Scientist?
Please don't start playing the race card.My farts hospitalize small children0 -

He may pay his bills on time. We only have his word for that, maybe all their bills are under his wifes name name and he holds no credit accounts, thus having no proven history.
I personally can not be described as an indigenous Brit, and understand racism very well, however I'm offended by the fact that you have posted this. It's cases like this that get non indigenous Brits a bad reputation.
Come on, don't lie he has 3 bed room house and paying mortgage for 10 years, got 2 credit cards, bloody hell if i say something why the hell you always think about it is against Brit.
I'm telling genuine mistake where we are making, and happy to discuss the solution. Always people make mistake either because of racism or not. But i'm not talking about racism here. O2 insulted one of the world respectful man. O2 will have to apologies for that. It is against Brit if you think what else i can say, ready my signature.0 -
Look, firstly having read your link in more depth (rather than your extract), I'm man enough to admit that that maybe i got it wrong in my previous post.
However why use the race card? why could it not have been a genuine mistake? Mistakes happen.truthman007 wrote: »Come on, don't lie he has 3 bed room house and paying mortgage for 10 years, got 2 credit cards, bloody hell if i say something why the hell you always think about it is against Brit.
Secondly, please do not accuse me of lieing, you don't know me. Finally you seem to be suggesting that I "always think about Brits"
Take that chip off your shoulder. Again you do not know me. I am not white, however I despise people playing the race card as it make life difficult for everyone else who just wants to get on with life.My farts hospitalize small children0
