I rang BT yesterday ( Yes, she's on BT Basic ) and they said she could have broadband at £7.99 for the first 3 months and then £14.99 thereafter and her BT Basic would stay the same........She only pays about £13 a quarter all in as she only uses it for local calls etc.
So these are the providers she can get at her exchange.
BT Wholesale ADSL
BT Wholesale ADSL Max
AOL LLU
TalkTalk (CPW) LLU
Orange LLU (Formerly Wanadoo)
So, can you tell me which is the cheapest and most reliable for her.
Thanks0 -
TT Essentials is the cheapest @ £6.99 LLU, but that would mean her moving her line rental to TT and losing BT Basic (however that might still be cheaper overall at £18.48). AOL is the same co. as TT. Stay away from Orange.
I suggest you look at Plusnet Value (non LLU package). Assuming you are on a Market 3 exchange that would only be £5.99 per month and she can keep BT Basic. Even on a Market 2 exchange it's only £11.99-still less than BT. Plusnet is a BT owned ISP, but run independently, and all the better for it.
Quidco cashback is also available on Plusnet.
BTW, BT do not differentiate between 'local' and 'national' calls any more, the cost is the same (has been for many years). For £16.53pm (little more than she pays now) she could be on BT Anytime and have unlimited calls. That's line rental at £11.54 and Anytime at £4.99 (based on payment by DD and paper-free billling). No free lunch, and no free laptop0 -
Why not give Plusnet £5.99 per month a try, I use it and am very pleased, I am also on BT Basic.0

and do you? That gum you like is coming back in style.0

And do I what?
Plusnet Value is 'unmetered' after midnight so if mum is an insomniac she can download all her iPlayer stuff overnight without it counting towards her allowance.A kind word lasts a minute, a skelped erse is sair for a day.0 -
Does she have Sky TV, if so she could sign up to Sky Base for £5 or free with taking Sky Talk.......What if the Hokey Pokey really is what it's all about !!!0

Thanks for replies...............I will look into the Plusnet thing first and see waht they can offer.
Thanks again.0 -

The £5.99 is for the first 3 months as far as I can see, then £11.99 per month.
Will that be the only amount to pay on top of the BT Basic she already pays ?.........Or will BT want more because of the broadband.0 -
Hi bloodnok, enter her details in the following, and it will tell you if she qualifies for the value broadband, which will be £5.99 per month, every month.

That will be the only amount she will have to pay on top of BT Basic, BT will not charge anything for the broadband. Diane0
