Well, as far as I can see, the site has been out of action for 5+ hours.
They've effectively invited a denial-of-service attack on themselves!

prowla makes a good point. As far as publicity and increasing tunetribe's subscribers goes, surely MSE folk are going to be using the tunechecker.com site anyway so they will use tunetribe if it's cheapest for a particular track or album. I suppose increasing their subscribed users has other purposes in terms of making the company more attractive for subsequent investment but they are losing sales the whole time the site is down. I would think they'd also be concerned about existing customers who don't know anything about this particular offer and may panic that the company has ceased trading, some of whom will have funds in their tune tribe account.

I would suggest that if they wanted to do something similar in the future it would be a better plan to run it as a competition:
    1. Have a link in the MSE newsletter to register with them and enter the competition over a defined period (a week, say)
    2. Draw takes place a week later from those accounts that have been verified by email.
    3. 10,000 winners are emailed a unique (non-sequentially generated, to stop people trying to guess codes) code for their free download.

    Bob's your uncle...
  • That's an inspired idea SamboC.

And thank you to all posters! You're wonderful!
  • It looks like I may have got further than everyone else at the moment.
I picked my album, Pet Sounds by the Beach Boys at £3.99, added to basket, to checkout, registered, received my confirmation email, followed link and finally logged in, got to checkout, put in the code and it was not valid, tried all sorts of variants of TUNE, tune, "TUNE" etc but nothing, then kicked out.
I've since received my welcome email, but cannot get on at all now.
  • well, this has had 4,951 views and I have not heard of one person who has actually downloaded a free album yet!
  • Patience is a virtue. I'm certain Tune Tribe are as eager to resolve the problems as we are to have them resolved.
