Eric, I agree. For what you want, a used car may be best.

It is horses for courses :) My horses are consumer goods, yours more special indulgence :)))

Unless you get hungry - because I have just noticed Google has made me No1 in UK for "kebab van hire" hahahaha! Now I will have hundreds of Turks chasing me for one of these.

    Gotta laugh :)

Eric, I'm glad you've decided to see sense.
If you fancy some poke, a slightly leftfield option might be a Saab 9-5 Aero HOT for 12 months. Cheap at the moment because of the issues with Saab and 250bhp. Your budget would get you an 05 plate, for a car that originally cost £30k. Won't handle like an S4 but it is only for 12 months.

Completely agree with you about the reservations of the Saab, but at that price point it's all about compromise. You could go for a 10yr old RWD V8 barge, but if something goes wrong it's going to cost alot of money to fix. A 5yr old Saab is still going to be reliable for 12 months.

I'm doing exactly the same as you. The lease on my 330d expired last year and rather than get another one I'm now in a 12yr old MX5 and absolutely loving it. Handles like a dream and you get very involved in the driving, going do do a few track days in it this summer. Not as fast as the BMW but I don't really notice the difference in the real world.

Sorry thought your budget was £6k. I was looking at this one http://www.autotrader.co.uk/classified/advert/201002349950128/sort/pricedesc/usedcars/price-to/6000/model/9-5/make/saab/radius/1500/postcode/gu528ue/page/1/keywords/aero?previous=%2Fsearch%2Fused%2Fcars%2Fsaab%2F9-5%2Fpostcode%2Fgu528ue%2Fradius%2F1500%2Fkeywords%2Faero%2Fprice-to%2F6000%2Fsort%2Fpricedesc%2Fpage%2F1&logcode=p

Another alternative, if size isn't a great issue would be a Clio 182 - great fun for 12 months, if not the most practical of cars, and they generally come with free baseball cap and shiny tracksuit.
  • Im looking at a getting a new car lease but my credit history is quite bad.

Will this affect my ability to get a car on a 2yr/3yr lease?

lol @ the clio, im to old for a boi-racer wagon;)

I could go to 6k at a pinch, i am tempted by the 02 with 36k miles and specialist saab warranty for £4800 which is also an auto

we shall see how they drive this morning

MX5s are great cars, my sisters had 2 of them, cant get many people in the back thou and as SWMBO has a MR2 roadster we kinda need rear seats and a boot :p

    yes they do credit checks

you may have to pay a higher APR or simply be refused.

Oh my how can such a huge car have such a tiny cabin, as small as swimbos MR2r but unlike her car the seat belt wouldn't go around me, my golf is cavenous in comparison and has 12 inches spare on the belt.
