Where's the best place to find a cheap Focus/Golf sized car for 9-12 months lease

Does not have to be new, ideally an auto diesel

Ah someone with sense. Look for the deal not the car.

Your best bet will be over 12 months and if you can wait until scrappage is over I think you will get a better deal.

    http://www.contracthireandleasing.com/

Start with the above link and work from there (it takes a lot of searching). The company I was going to suggest has supposedly gone out of business so make sure any deposit is going straight to the finance company and not via the broker just in case they go belly up.

I think you will struggle to find anything that could be termed a bargain. A quick look seems to indicate you will struggle to get anything below £200/month.

If a car to you is 100% tool and 0% toy then do indeed look for the deal and not the car.

Unfortunately my car to me is at least 50% toy so I find the car and then find the best deal on it.

I have 12 months left on my contract at work and don't want to get a decent car with high premiums or a long term commitments. After that I can get myself another toy.

Works out cheaper to lease a new car than to buy an old banger for 3 or 4k :rotfl:

The site Hintza listed has far to much info and leg work, its not cost effective for me to spend hours and hours trawling just to save £15 a month.

Really. I bought a £4k car 12 months ago with 10 months tax and MOT. It's cost
    12 months tax £190
    MOT and Service £125
    Wiper blade £10

It's now worth £3,750, so over 12 months the car has cost me £575 and to sell it on would pobably cost £80 in Autotrader fees, so total cost is £655.

Including VAT you're looking at £300pcm for the type of car you're after, which is a total cost of £3600. It's definately not cheaper to lease a new car.

My wife's diesel CMax that we bought at auction 9 months ago is actually now worth more than we paid for it 9 months ago. Purchase price £7k, now worth £8k to sell privately.

You just need to buy the right car at the right price.

you also bought on the price rise after the second hand market collapsed and has now been boosted massively by the scrapage scheme, but it has now peaked so there are very few bargains now

then you have to find a good car or get lucky, finding one that's going to work fault free for 12 months will be very hard, then finding one that's fault free, not been smashed up or stolen or has a log book loan on it etc is extremely hard, you also need to have a decent mechanical knowledge and alot of time or just get very lucky

oh and i can also write it off on my books

For short term car ownership your looking for what will loose the least amount of money in just a year. Ford Focus a good candidate as it looses lots from brand new but less than say a VW Golf after that.
Get it 1 year old so your still safely under warranty and because there is no advantage to getting it 2 year sold because depreciation will be about the same over the next 12 months of it's life.
Buy from a dealer sell privately and you'll loose abut £3000 or £250 a month on it (1.6 TDi Zetec 5 door).
If you really can find a similar car for even as much as £250 a month including VAT on 12 month lease it really is the way to do it. I wouldn't fancy an older car of unknown history and then rely on it for my income either. I assume not turning up to work means not getting paid.

Go and speak to ling then she will sort you out with the minimum of fuss.

Obviously money isn't the issue here. The OP is lookihg for a hassle free car for 12 months which is fair enough.

    http://www.lingscars.com/

    Or alternatively:-

http://www.a1vs.co.uk/content/short-term/12/ (I have used these guys in the past and they were certainly a lot better than my last lease broker)

Or just google 12 month car lease

Exactly, I was just pointing out that it is most defintely not cheaper to lease a new car for 12 months than run a second hand one.

many thanks, tried ling she only has a 207 which is too small, does not really seam interested in 12 month leases.

i have emailed a1vs to see what they can do

    many thanks

if a car breaks down it costs me lost money at work (penalties, lost contracts) so it needs to work reliably

im sure there are some good value second hand cars out there but there are also alot of horror stories and its a big risk if your not 100% up on car mechanicals
