I recently realized I could reclaim my bank charges over the past years that I have been charged. At the time I was a single mum to 3 children and unemployed on benefits. At that time I was struggling extremely hard with bills, buying food, putting in gas/electric meters etc. Now i have looked back at my statements and seen the obscene charges I was charged that was putting me in debt and struggling with everyday necessities. Each month I would get charged thus I'd go overdrawn just to make ends meet. In one month alone I was charged just over £300! How far back can I claim for?0

Morning
Like most I did the reclaim through this sites guidance and letters in 2009 .
Halifax HSBC passed to debt collectors, up until a year ago I have had about 15 debt collection agencies contact me and when I explained what was happening they all dropped the case and returned to Halifax HSBC.
Now I have a debt collection agency who have bought the debt and pestering the hell out of me ,
I have written and told them all about the situation but continualy getting letters .
They are saying I owe £1316.60
I am saying with the help of this site they owe in overcharges
£1845.58.
I have all letters and emails filed
They do not want to know and said if I need anymore information on the account I will have to contact Halifax HSBC and pay for the information
But they own the debt ?
I do not know what to do next
Can anyone advise please.
Thanks

Hi,
We are officially in financial hardship, I have just received information that we have been charged £1875 in the time we have held the account ( approx 10 years). This not to mention my personal account, which I think will exceed this amount.
My question is, we are have a self managed dmp and are paying agreed monthly amounts. What we have been charged is greater than what we owe, does anyone think we would be in a position to write off this debt when/if we were able to negotiate.
All advice appreciated.

Hi, I'm always getting bank charges it getting beyond a joke now, when the bank takes the fee for me being overdrawn they are also making me overdrawn at the same time, I was wondering if anyone knows if I can claim this back or do something as it happening every month, ??????0

You need to put in a case for financial hardship and ask them to help you out, they may refund up to 6 months or freeze future charges etc - there is no obligation to give you fees back but a hardship case may stop the charges for a while to help you out.
Do note any hardship claim will look at your spending, so if you are spending on luxuries like pay TV, mobile contract etc that you would have cancelled if you were living on the breadline they will probably not help.Sam Vimes' Boots Theory of Socioeconomic Unfairness:
People are rich because they spend less money. A poor man buys $10 boots that last a season or two before he's walking in wet shoes and has to buy another pair. A rich man buys $50 boots that are made better and give him 10 years of dry feet. The poor man has spent $100 over those 10 years and still has wet feet.

So, you need to look at what is causing the charge and change your behaviour to avoid it.I am an Independent Financial Adviser (IFA). Hello
I used the templates from this forum and wrote to my bank. They replied requesting I send a further cheque for a further £10 and asked me to telephone them.
Instead of telephoning them I wrote back to them again and sent a further cheque for £10 as requested. The deadline has now passed and I've not heard anything from them since.
We are suffering genuine financial hardship. We don't have mobile phone contacts, no SKY TV.
Our local branch is aware that we are struggling as we have been in on a number of occasions to attempt to discuss paying off our overdraft etc. They suggested at one time, that I use the money that is paid for our disabled son which I refused to do as it is my son's money and he needs it for his living costs.
Any advice would be appreciated.

Hi, although I've looked at various articles I can't establish whether I can try to reclaim interest charged on my overdraft or whether it's specifically just charges such as going over my arranged overdraft limit and bounced DDs. Can someone advise please. Many Thanks.0
