Is it possible that an anonymous email can be traced back to the sender

Hi
Can someone tell me whether or not an email sent via Yahoo could be traced back to me .
I am aware that I have a IP address because of my BT broadband connection.
This email is a whistle blowing email not illegal or abuse .
I just don’t want to get caught up in the aftermath because the person I am shopping is a very dodgy bloke and I rather like my knee caps and the rest of my body for that matter.
Thanks for your help

Within reasonable area- yeas! by somebody in a decent know how
Sorry0 -
why not go into an internet caf!, pay by cash, create a new email account, send the email, then leave!0

As said someone with decent knowledge can trace an IP address, although they would of course need access to the original email so it probably depends where you are sending it and what action is taken after that.
Internet cafe idea sounds good to me.0 -
Owed out = lots. :cool:0

They will be able to trace your IP address and ISP but the ISP would need to tell them who was using that IP address.
I agree with above though, just use a new address from a public location if you are worried about it.0 -
That’s great everybody ,thanks ,internet caf! and new email address it is.
Pramsay ,are you saying its only possible if the recipient (the authorities) allowed access to the electronic version of the email .? I am sure this would not happen but they would no doubt give him a printed copy of the email.
Fiddweb I had never heard of Busenbust but I have now.
Thanks again.0 -

Authorities do not have a right to trace your IP/you, unless of terrorism/threat done
It is called Data Protection Act!0
