You are getting a value of 2k for your heap of crap banger that isnt roadworthy. What more do you want?
Expecting them to waste valuable showspace to accomodate it as well for 2 months is ridicolous.

If you are so outraged cancel the sale....

look the fact of the matter is that they said on 3 occasions when trying to get their sale that they would take the car straight away. if they had said that i had to wait 6 weeks at the time then that would have been fine. the fact is that i prepared to take the car in straight away because they assured me and i am now out of pocket because i did this. this is the point, no other issue!

my guessing is that all the quirky replies on here are from people involved in the industry. am i right?

    keith, thanks for the compliment.

I'm sorry but you're not exactly endearing yourself to the board here... You asked for opinions by posting on the forum, and when people respond in a manner you don't agree with you get annoyed with them.

Fact is, it is your word against the companies, unless you can prove otherwise. I'd love to be able to turn round and offer a solution, but unless some enterprising MSE'er has invented a time machine or is Hiro Nakamura then I don'tthink there is one.

As you say, I think you are left with no option but to just live and learn by the experience. Maybe if there was a next time you should ask for such arrangements in writing, or at the very least make arrangements to prep the car and take it in on your day off, then provided you called them on the morning of your trade in to check it was still ok, you wouldn't waste any time or effort.

oh and BTW, I'm nothing to do with the motor industry, however I am involved quite heavily in a number of Owners Clubs :D

pete as you say i have not particuarly enjoyed the manner in which some replies have been written. however i think you will find that i did not disagree with what has been said. so mention of time machines does not really help the situation.

maybe i was just looking for some sympathy which has also been forthcoming.

i just find it depressing. we run 2 business and the majority of our deals are done on handshakes. this is what i am used to and will remain doing so. i don't believe that everything should be written down and recorded. i believe that a deal done between 2 people should be upheld by the people involved.

Couldn't you have taxed the car for 6 months and when the new one was ready, drive to the dealer and remove your tax disc for a refund?

I SORNED my car after doing a scrappage deal. The dealer came and collected it on their trade plates when the new car was ready, no big deal.
