I used to a cinema manager. Believe me, it all happened.

Did you ask if you could join in? ;)

And what's the worst that could happen to someone if they get caught having sex in the cinema? :rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl:

Do security just remove them or do you let them get on with it and enjoy watching something more interesting than a movie for once? :rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl:

It's going to be on DVD soon. If you rent online from lovefilm.com or screenselect.com it's way cheaper

hmm.. but then you don't get the cinema experience

    But, do you care?

(or you can download it from the internet)

It depends on how much you like films. If you go during the day on a Wednesday you can use the Orange 2 FOR 1 deal, which works out about the same as DVD.

I don't think the cinema is a waste of money, I think it has a whole sense of ritual about it that you don't have with renting a DVD.

In fact it is BECAUSE of rental films that you get anti-social and selfish behavior in cinemas, because people are used watching at home.

  • I use to have a UGC card, it only cost 9.99 a month and gave you unlimited cinema viewing for the month. Now i live in london, i almost expect to pay that much to see one film.. ah, the old days

Not a good thing to admit on a money saving forum :)

We believe in money saving, not thieving. What you do in your personal time is up to you, but no-one wants to hear of your illegal doings on this forum. What quite was the point of that post? To sound clever? Well, didn't work :/

You can download them but it DOES drop quality (has to, the file size compared to a dvd is tiny ratio wise so can't fit as much data and is more compressed obv)... and then there is that cinema experience as well!

Money saving would be to use something like amazon dvd rentals. Breaking the law and thieving would be to download. :)

Not always. Sometimes you can get DVD quality and download in the original DVD format (including surround sound). This takes a while and you do *need* a fast connection - at least 2mb, and to use a good P2P app like bittorrent.

There is a newer format called RAT which is sort of a compression wrapper for DVD, which provides quite remarkable quality. DivX and Xvid also provide relatively good quality. The problem with quality and compression occurs when people try to compress to 700mb and use only a single pass, oh yeah and when it's filmed in cinemas.

You could also accidentally make a back-up for later viewing ;) lol.

I do NOT recommend downloading movies or copying movies...

But when you have a bit of time on your hands and you're unemployed because noone wants to give you a job (despite numerous applications - and good educational background), you have the internet and wanna see a movie, what else are you going to do....

I must admit I havent heard of RAT :S, but DivX and XviD are compressions and DO take away sound quality and picture quality in some places!

As for your last bit, "what else are you going to do....", well, if that makes sense then when you're unemployed you'll also tax evade, steal from your local supermarket and forget your kids exist, all to save money :)

Those 3 things break the law but would help when you have no job. So would downloading movies. How about watch tv? Amazon dvd rental does not cost a lot.. thats another option! etc etc

I just think advertising piracy on a money saving board is completely the wrong way to go about it. People know about piracy, if they want to do it they will, but they dont need money savers advertising it :s As then tbh, the forum could be liable if someone got caught and started due to posts on here!

I have no kids luckily. Can't quite see how unemployed people can tax evade? As VAT is automatically added to the cost of items when purchased.

Organisations such as MPAA and FACT would like you to believe (and will try to drill in to your head with those ads they won't let you get past at the start of a DVD) that downloading a movie is the same as removing items from a shelf and not paying for them. Sorry but news flash... You're not taking any goods, merely downloading ones and zeros which happen to be organised a particular way. It's there to download and it's is not the theft of goods. In the eyes of the law it is a criminal offence yes. If you was not going to buy the movie anyway or pay to see it at the cinema, and it's there for you to download, the copyright holder loses no money... If I steal from the supermarket or rob an old lady they do lose something.

The real problem is when you get people buying blank DVD-R's and selling them a fiver each at the car boot while claiming benefits. At Cross Green car boot in Leeds almost every other stall is selling counterfeit DVD's. Nearly all no doubt on benefits and I think it's disgusting myself. I'd love to make some money like that but I know for a fact if I did it I'd be arrested first day lol.

I doubt the forum would be liable simply because someone discussed piracy. If someone provided a link to a site where you could do something then I think that might be questionable.

I don't recommend piracy. Most people here will have jobs and more money than I do, and I highly recommend that with the money they save using these forums they pay for DVD rental and just buying the DVD in Virgin or HMV. Afterall downloading takes lots of time and effort, a commodity most working people will not have. Plus when you buy the DVD you get a nice case and label and a disc you can watch in 10 years time.

There is also the reverse argument that movie companies making DVD's are robbing customers by price fixing DVD's. If so, people downloading movies just gives some power to the people. People do not often have power and big corporations like to walk all over people where they can..
  • If you don't recommend piracy then why are you advertising it :)

End of the day, its illegal. Thats it. No more to be said. People can choose to do it if they wish, its up to them! But it IS illegal. So for money savers to promote it is wrong! It is giving out the wrong message. I dont see how that can be argued with.
