To reply to the OP - I had some serious, painful periods of illness and 3 rounds of surgery on my spine.

While I'm definitely no saint, never will be, I did begin to think about the relative "value" of things as compared to their "worth" to me. Much of the crap in the shops is geared to play on our insecurities about our outward image, even down to the branding on groceries.

Now I buy what I really need, or a few things I really really REALLY want for aesthetic or personal reasons.

I can't find the thread where I answered a while ago but a student was asking about whether she should shop in Lidl/Adli & would people laugh at her? I replied that many of the people filling up their trolleys in Waitrose or Sainsbury's with the "finest" stuff would probably be up to their eyes in debt as it's all about image and flash...

I know loads of people who shop in lidl/aldi and buy the odd one or two bits from finest ranges and m and s. Thats the way to go! Have a couple of little bits but shop sensibly on the main stuff.

Today is the day... i am going out with my little DD.... should i really go to town or should i just go for a walk with her ??... Honestly there is nothing i really need... and if i go all the way there, and i find nothing , i get this urge that i need to get something, i cant just waste 4.50 bus fare for nothing.
Although i bought presents for my niece and sent them over, i feel is my obligation now that she is born, to give them some more presents... it is either that or the fact that i love buying things for babies...
I made up my mind... i will stay in today, i will do all my washing, i will clean the house, then my DD and I will go for a longgggggg walk( she loves walking)
If i save enough by not shopping ( need to stop this habit of shopping when i am bored) i might get her a little bike !.

    Ladies...
I dont think theres a day go by when I can avoid buying something :(
Between like 9pm last night and now I have brought the fondu and this rather beautiful necklace.
My excuse... It said 60.00 on the website, i thought it was 30.00, then came up as 5.00 - and i fell in love with it at 30.00 - ill probs wear it once at the cost of 8.95 :(

It maddens me, as I always waste money spend the odd 3.00 there 5.00 there - if i learnt to keep the money in my account waiting for such a nice purchase it would be differemt - but does anybody ever feel like they are constantly spending lifes one big blurrghhh of money spending :(
Can you not cancel the order or return it? Is there no way you can have your card blocked for online shopping? It won't stop you from popping out to the shops, but at least when you're at home you won't be able to be tempted.

Do you really actually need it or "I just really need it as its just so perfect" and will it be a wearable or a wardrobe orniment? Yes I call my shoes wardrobe orniments. Ah go for it, your making 32.00 profit :S lol.

I just had a strong urge for a shop so have ordered my sisters birthday pressie (not until march lol) from Debenhams :) I still need a little more for her, so when I need a shop again ill do the same :)
It's something to use, rather than wear. I will use it. Though I'm not going out today (too cold) so will have to return them on Monday and buy said £8 item only when I've returned the other two items!

Salesaddict - how are you doing? I see you thanking but you don't seem to have posted in a while xx

edit - ignore me, I just saw your post from yesterday :)

    NG lady-

I know im going to sound like someones mum :o but why are you using a credit card? I hope to heavens you are not drawing cash off it....

A credit card is an umbilical cord to a mother who feeds nothing but debt.

Good luck all of you today...if you don't hear from me tomorrow i'm recovering from a poorly head lol! xxxx
Hoping to of finally learned my lesson...slowly but surely
