Tower block of commons

I was pleased to see the residents of "Goresbrook Village" recognising the BNP bloke for what he was BUT I've a feeling he was telling the truth.
In the 1960's, I lived in Glasgow - there were lots of similar blocks of flats that had replaced the Gorbals slums - and the rumour was that you could get a flat off the socialist local council of red Clyde side for the price of a packet of fags per week. (Dunhill ?)
Then we had Westminster council, under Dame Shirley "Building sustainable communities".
The first lot wanted a society of Rab C Nesbitt/Shameless characters as voting booth fodder - who were dependent on the army of care from the authorities. The second lot were making sure that all such dependent characters were ghettoed together and could vote for the same minority councillor.
Does anyone think the Barking & Dagenham is going to be able to afford to demolish those tower blocks in the next 5 years ?
There is now a huge industry, whichever gang of clowns are running this country. One half of it is hard at work taxing or printing half our wealth to spend on our behalf - the other half is exercising some of the best brains in the country trying to grab back as much of possible of that half of the country's wealth so that their fairly wealthy clients can have a bit more of their own (grandfather's?) money to spend.
Are we really surprised that the inhabitants of a tower block have realised that their best bet of getting more wealth is to work the system - Just ask all those tax accountants and solicitors what they think.
They and the politicians need each other.
I was quite heartened to see that it was possible to get these people over the road into the pub for a meeting - at least a few characters were educating themselves on how to work the system.0 -

these people don't look hard done by to me. For filth that don't do a days work, they seem to have every mod con going - including playstations and things I don't even have!
and what is the obsession with yoooooof centahs???? all these yooofs will be on the street without a yooof centah. why??? they have free homes. When i finished school I went home, watched tv and did my homework. The end. I never went to a yoooof centah to make music or play pool. Just go home you feral scum.
I would ban all yoooooooooooooooooof centahs. waste of money.0 -
Youth centres are expensive. I couldn't afford to go to them. Where I lived, the figure £2.50 per attendance (or maybe that was per month) rings a bell (1975) .... which was more than my pocket money (50p/week). Then once you were in you just sat around with your friends (if they could afford to get in) buying cans of coke (if you had the cash) ... or .... do like I did and sit on the bench at the village green for free.
Youth clubs were for those with cash, the middle classes.0 -

"Thames Gateway" dual carriageway until Docklands.
The only traffic lights between the M25 and the approaches to the tunnels into Docklands are at Goresbrook.
