Cats on counters HELP

No helpful advice I'm afraid, but I do empathise!!
One of my cats has started doing this too - every time I see her jump up there I tell her "NO!" and get her down, but as soon as my back's turned she's back up there!
It's turning into a battle of the wills, I came home to find her asleep on the bread board the other day :eek:0 -
A tip somebody told me when I was having this problem was to put some pennies in an empty can of coke, sellotape it shut and each time the cats jumped up shake it really closely to them. It worked well for me, as soon as I started shaking they would jump down immediately & they soon learnt not to jump up.
As for stopping them when you're not in the room could you maybe put foil along the top of the worktop? I had to do this when my cats kept going behind the tv & it seems that they don't like walking on it so soon learnt not to do that either.:happylove DD July 2011:happyloveAug 13 [STRIKE]£4235.19[/STRIKE] £2550.00 :cool:0 -

May I remind everyone to read the teeny weeny print on any cleaning products that are used on worktops? Anything that contains phenols or goes cloudy in water is toxic if it gets on cats paws, also some of the antibacterial sprays carry a warning such as "do not allow pets (especially cats) to walk on treated surfaces or lick surfaces that have been sprayed".

I have Tesco Daisy antibac spray which carries this warning, and Stardrops antibac spray which does not. Thread on Purrs:

Noah has only recently started going on my worktops, as it's an open plan flat I can't stop him without shutting him into the bedroom/ hall/ bathroom which seems cruel. I am often always in the room or even the flat to police the situation: yesterday he stole two chunks of frozen rabbit which were his anyway. :rotfl:Declutterbug-in-progress.⭐️⭐️⭐️ ⭐️⭐️0 -

I use Stardrops....to clean my laminate floors too
I'll have a look at the purrs link to see what cleaning products are suitable.
Unless I lock them in the bathroom with the shower on to keep them amused until all the floors dry
Sometimes it's important to work for that pot of gold...But other times it's essential to take time off and to make sure that your most important decision in the day simply consists of choosing which color to slide down on the rainbow...0 -
Not a very nice thing i know, but my cat used to do this until i left a piece of tin foil on the worktop and a mirror on the sink counter - her 2 favourite spots!!
Cats hate their reflection and dont like the scrunch of tin foil.
My cat is now 10 and don`t do it!DebtFree FEB 2010!Slight blip in 2013 - Debtfree Aug 2014 :j

Will try the pennies in a can first and if that dont work i will try the foil, got quite a bit of surfaces so best grab a new roll of foil next time im shopping.
I also think they want to look out of the kitchen window into the garden and the sink is in front of the window, but why wait till im out of the room, thats making me think they know there not allowed up there.. Hope getting the cat flap fitted with stop that issue as its to cold at the moment to leave back door openMum of 2 adorable children & 2 cheeky cats who were born on 23.04.2009 :rotfl:0 -
My cats jump up on the worktops all the time, I've given up trying to get them to stop. Cats are very headstrong animals and will do what they want! I just make sure I wipe the worktops down when I prepare food, and I also just make sure I prepare food on plates and chopping boards to be on the safe side. Its a lot easier to do that than listen to myself shouting at them all day and night!Mummy to

I think if i dont deal with it now it will only get worse, if i dont scold them to get off they will think its ok to jump up when im preparing food, also it drives me mad when they have been out in the rain with muddy paws on the floors and think it would make me feel sick to see muddy paw prints all over my work surfaces... I am a cleaning freak (so ive been told many times) and i think the smallest things bother me what prob wouldnt bother others so much.Mum of 2 adorable children & 2 cheeky cats who were born on 23.04.2009 :rotfl:0
