Cats on counters HELP

Hi i have 2 eight month old cats who are driving me crazy jumping up on my kitchen work surfaces as soon as i leave the kitchen, i had a dripping taps about 2 months ago and i know this was the start of them jumping up on the sink to watch the tap drip, had the tap fixed soon after and have struggled since then with how to stop them jumping on the worktops. I have there food bowls and water bowls in the kitchen so closing the door when exiting the kitchen is something i dont want to have to do, im also about to have a cat flap put in the kitchen door so closing the door then would be impossible. Have scolded them everytime i catch them on the surfaces and even flicked them with water (but that dont work as they are crazy and love water) not sure if i just need to be persistant in scolding them when i catch them and hope eventually it will stop. There is nothing left out on my counters that would be the reason for them to do it & i never have dirty dishes lying about either. I had 2 cats before for 17yrs and they never did this so im sort of stuck in knowing what to do for the best...

Just ensure you wash the worktops down properly but then cat hairs will be everywhere. I hate cats in Kitchens i really do. I think it is disgusting when people let them on the tops so I do feel for you. Animals should not be allowed anywhere near food preparation tops and untensils. I always have my kitchen door shut because I don't allow my Cats in at all. Their food and water bowls are in the lounge. Maybe you should try having the bowls in another room.

Yeah but like i said i am having the cat flap fitted in the kitchen door so cant close it, i already close my living room door of a night and when im out as i have leather sofa's and try to prevent them being scratched... I always wash the surfaces with bleach sprays as like you i hate them being on the surfaces, apart from the sink inticing them there's nothing else cause i am very tidy and never have dirty places sitting in there :)

We have a similar problem and our cat flap is also in the kitchen (no choice)
We just try to make a point of making sure there is nothing worth finding on the worktop. No food, nothing to lick, no dirty bowls. We keep an eye out when we're cooking. And they get a sharp telling off if we catch them up there.

    I THINK they're improving...

Get a water squirter & squirt them everytime they jump up. Best if they don't know its you doing it, try to be discreet.

MrsE i have the strangest cats going cause they actually dont mind water, thats the whole reason they started going on the surfaces, they also go potty for bleach, i wash the floors in bleach and close the door when its wet and they sniff the door and scratch the floor trying to get in the room, once floor is dried i open the door and they spend 10 mins rolling about all over the floor, it seems to be like catnip for them...

I've tried that....but Charlie likes water. He sits at the end of the bath whilst I shower and often wanders under the shower. He's even jumped in the bath a couple of times...:rotfl:

My eldest kitten can now jump on the sides and its driving me nuts.

youngest kitten only gets as far as reaching the handles on the cupboard and then falls off :rotfl: but it wont be long before he's up there too :(

I'v got an electric halogen hob that stays warm for ages. i'm trying to be really aware of shutting the door when I leave the kitchen so it has time to cool down but I'm really concerned about one of them wandering over the cooker and burning themselves :(
Sometimes it's important to work for that pot of gold...But other times it's essential to take time off and to make sure that your most important decision in the day simply consists of choosing which color to slide down on the rainbow...
