Just gone back to look at the Tesco one and it says it is a 32-bit Desktop.

Is this right? The quad core one at ebuyer was a 64-bit one and I thought they had the same processor.

no well spotted there missed that lol even i can make mistakes of sorts.
right with out confusing you here basically they have got the wrong operating system for the machine. ill try explain basically the cpu is a 64bit processor and once you go above 3gb of ram (if memory serves me) you need a 64bit os for it to recognise the full 4gb and make it all run ok if that sort of makes sense for you.

right i give you this little gem have you considered dell outlet at all? i have bought 2 desktops and 2 lappys for me/family all returned systems with 12 month warranty so no worries.
example 1 of the desktops was at the time new price from dell £540 i got for £300 from dell outlet btw all the machines still going strong. lappy im typing on here cost me £280 new price £420. so basically getting a much better machine for your money!
the only thing to remember is with the desktops they dont not come with monitors.
you will have to look thru the systems listed click on the blue system identifier for specs of the machine.

the only other option is to build your own like i have done a couple of years ago that was fun
try 4 hardrives,2 dvd drives, dual graphics cards, cpu water cooling system all in a 11bay server tower case, full neon kit well had to look pretty and plenty of other stuff but anyhoo i seem to be a bit off topic again have a look in the stockroom see if anything grabs you.:D

Hi basil. I surprised myself with spotting the 32-bit system:)

Yes, I'd already gleaned on here about not getting full amounts of ram quoted on pc's, and making sure they were 64-bit systems (though the technical bits always go over my head and I develop a 'glazed expression').

Thanks for the dell link. I have looked at it but they are either too dear or mini towers which I don't really fancy. I will keep checking it out though, along with ebuyer etc.

Sounds like you had fun building your own but there is NO WAY I would even consider that option, thanks. Besides which, can you imagine all the decisions I'd have to make over choosing the different bits required:eek:

Think I'm going to take a mini-break from the search for now - it's doing my head in. I'll just keep an eye on this forum, hotuk, ebuyer, dell etc. to see if anything crops up.

Many thanks for all your input, it's been greatly appreciated:T

I love this forum! Thanks to everyone who's helped me
