honestly in a word no if its not fautly and is bought to there spec their point would be whats wrong with it. think of it like buying a car that didnt have electric mirrors so you then went out bought electric mirrors only to find you model didnt have the electric lead in the door. sort of like that.
if i where you contact compaq directly as ask them to tell you if ram is upgradeable firslty and ask what the board can carry in gb limit and also how many slots it has.
you see it may be upgradeable say to 4gb but it may only have 2 slots meaning that in the machine you have 2 times 1gb strips which means if and when you want to upgrade to say 4gb you would have to throw existing ram into the bin. get 2 new 2gb strips and plug them in thats if the board will carry it! the only way to find out this information is if they will tell you. otherwise the safe bet will be the ebuyer computer yes it does not have the monitor but you would not ever have to worry about upgrading bits for a long while sometimes it worth spending that bit more now so dont get caught out later but you need to weigh up pros and cons.
ram for ddr3 i can get 2 x 2gb strips for £77.98 as an example0 -
The ebuyer one is 4g RAM DDR3 and also mentions an Intel G41 express chipset.
Does this mean it is basically similar to the first one but has already been upgraded to 4g RAM and has a bigger hard drive?
Sorry but I'm getting totally confused now0 -

its possiable but really all down to the amount of slots on the board. you see it is possiable to have the g41 on two boards but the manufacturers have differering amount of slots because they have dediced to save money and costs if you see what im saying. a computer can within reason have any size harddrive you want. anyway i'm off to get ready for work

As you say PC Worm is near by, ring them and ask them if the Motherboard can accept up to 4Gb of memory don't expect them to know but hey if they say it does and then when you look at the manual it doesn't send it back.Hi althas. Thank you for your reply and for making my decision easier.
Looks like the cheaper one is the way to go for me, then. I know, it's from the dreaded PC World ............. but hey they are close by.
The Norton Security package is half price at £29.35 if bought with the computer - not seen mention of a trial version supplied, so it looks like I'll be browsing this forum for threads on Avast, AVG etc.
Been waiting to get a new pc before getting into photo editing, so it may be awhile before I produce anything. I appreciate your advice, thanks.4.8kWp 12x400W Longhi 9.6 kWh battery Giv-hy 5.0 Inverter, WSW facing Essex . Decided not to bother with the 2g RAM one from PC World. I might as well try and get a 4g one if possible.
Seen these two, same size ram and hd but one is dual core, the other is quad core.
Would cost approx. £50 more for the quad core as I'd need to buy a monitor as well. Which is the better deal?
Or would I be better still waiting for the i3/i5/i7's appearing shortly?

arrrrrrrrrrgggggggggghhhhhhhhhhh breaths in arrrrrrggggggggghhhhh breaths in and out then sighs.
i see you are quite desive then remind me of me mum dragged around the shops for a dress day. start of in first shop sees dress 'hmmm not sure about that' gets dragged around another 20 or so shops goes back into the very first shop with first dress 'hmmm like that now'.
The eternal question of how does a womans mind work?
:rotfl:
anyway back on topic right for the spec the tesco one is better as has a nice quad core chip in it the argos one is a dual core so overall the quad core is better
as to the i3,5 blah blah is new and overpriced atm i would leave them alone for the minute seems to be the advice i have read in quiet a few places.

:think:Hmmmm, wasn't sure whether to a) answer you, b) make my son's tea or c) phone a friend. Decisions, decisions..................
Have we met before, you seem to know me so well? And yes, I would say that I AM indecisive but I can't make my mind up - boom boom.
The difference between your mum and me is that I wouldn't be shopping for dresses in the first place, I HATE SHOPPING!

Another thing is the confusing naming conventions that intel use as there is the budget "dual core" range (in the argos pc) but there is also the more upmarket "core 2 duo" range. I'm sure their intention is to totally confuse buyers!
While on the same subject I would generally buy the PC and monitor separately as the bundled argos monitor seems to have a very low resolution for the screen size. This will mean that each pixel is quite large so photos could look more grainy rather than nice & sharp. A handy "pixels per inch" calculator is here: http://thirdculture.com/joel/shumi/computer/hardware/ppicalc.html and I'd try and get a monitor with at least 100 pixels per inch.0
