then someone (presumably a member of Woolies staff) had carefully re-folded them to hide the black stains, replaced them in the pack and taped it shut again.

Do you not think its more likely a customer taped them up so that they could return them as the staff wouldn't check the condition of them if they were sealed?
I once had a p-t job at Woolies, and after that I'd NEVER buy anything edible from there, especially not the unwrapped pick 'n' mix (believe me - you don't want to know)

Having also worked part time at Wooolworths I completely agree, don't touch the pick and mix!! (everything else should be alright)

They had been re-sealed with Woolworths stickers!

OK, you asked for it! One quiet Sunday morning, the manager asked one of the girls in my branch to wash out the containers for the pick 'n' mix. After a few minutes' discussion between the staff who'd been there for ages, it was established that they hadn't been cleaned in over two years! Oh, and then there was the time when one of the staff was re-filling the containers. She opened up an enormous plastic bag of Smarties, then managed to spill them all over the (muddy) floor. "Luckily", the manager was out at lunch, so she scooped them back into the container!

Snotty kids are the least of your worries really!
  • I'm glad I only buy the individually wrapped pick & mix sweeties!
If knickers look like they've been dropped and kicked around the floor, this has almost certainly occurred in the shop, rather than in the possession of a customer who had returned them. It's highly unlikely they would have been worn, since most shops (I believe including Woolies) do not accept returns of underwear for hygeine reasons, unless the item is faulty, in which case it should not be resold. Obviously if Woolies have sold shop-soiled knickers without clearly labelling them as such and reducing the price accordingly, the customer should expect to be grovelled to.
When I worked in a shop, we would repack multipack items such as underwear that customers had taken out to inspect and then left lying loose on the shelf. We weren't given any instructions on what to do if we found any on the floor and/or dirty. Luckily, I never did, so I didn't have to ask my superiors about procedure in such a case.
The smelly swimsuit is even more revolting! Maybe those gusset stickers should be made tamper-evident like some price labels.

Pretty good idea not to buy them in the first place, unless they were heavily discounted.

Congratulations for getting over the grossness of my thread title and actually reading this!

My OH bought some knickers for my 2-yr old daughter in Woolies, only to get home and discover that the packet had been already opened and taped shut again. When we opened it, several pairs of the knickers inside were filthy - they'd obviously been dropped on a dirty floor, kicked around a bit, stood on a few times, then someone (presumably a member of Woolies staff) had carefully re-folded them to hide the black stains, replaced them in the pack and taped it shut again.

I emailed Woolies and got a bland apology and told to take them back to the store. Problem is, my OH used his credit card, so he'd have to take them back, which means wasting a morning (he works full-time) and a £2 train fare - hardly worthwhile for a £4.99 refund. I'm so disgusted and furious about this - any suggestions? (Other than, of course, bad-mouthing Woolies to anyone who'll listen!) I just feel completely ripped off - it's the kind of thing you'd expect from some dodgy market stall, not a big company like Woolies.

The funny thing is, I once had a p-t job at Woolies, and after that I'd NEVER buy anything edible from there, especially not the unwrapped pick 'n' mix (believe me - you don't want to know). You'd think I'd know better than to shop there at all!

Thanks for reading this and letting me vent!

ask woolworths for an address to send them and request a refund of postage and goodwill. If they dont then ask your credit card company to perform a chargeback on your credit card.

  • This is exactly why I wont by knickers from any shop that allows customers to return or exchange them.
It is well known in the model industry that they buy sexy undies from M&S wear them for shoots (with the tags tucked in) and then return them for a refund.

    Yuk!!

As far as I know M&S do not allow underwear to be returned.
