Woolworths selling dirty knickers!!!!

Congratulations for getting over the grossness of my thread title and actually reading this!
My OH bought some knickers for my 2-yr old daughter in Woolies, only to get home and discover that the packet had been already opened and taped shut again. When we opened it, several pairs of the knickers inside were filthy - they'd obviously been dropped on a dirty floor, kicked around a bit, stood on a few times, then someone (presumably a member of Woolies staff) had carefully re-folded them to hide the black stains, replaced them in the pack and taped it shut again.
I emailed Woolies and got a bland apology and told to take them back to the store. Problem is, my OH used his credit card, so he'd have to take them back, which means wasting a morning (he works full-time) and a £2 train fare - hardly worthwhile for a £4.99 refund. I'm so disgusted and furious about this - any suggestions? (Other than, of course, bad-mouthing Woolies to anyone who'll listen!) I just feel completely ripped off - it's the kind of thing you'd expect from some dodgy market stall, not a big company like Woolies.
The funny thing is, I once had a p-t job at Woolies, and after that I'd NEVER buy anything edible from there, especially not the unwrapped pick 'n' mix (believe me - you don't want to know). You'd think I'd know better than to shop there at all!
Thanks for reading this and letting me vent!

Well, you know, it's occurred to me that it's entirely possible they have.0 -
We had exactly the same with a pack of baby sleepsuits we got in Tesco. The Customer Services assistant wasn't too friendly and kind of gave the impression that we should have just washed them rather than take them back!Latest Wins: 08/06 Cinema Ticket
A big THANKYOU to everyone that posts comps!

This is exactly why I wont by knickers from any shop that allows customers to return or exchange them.
It is well known in the model industry that they buy sexy undies from M&S wear them for shoots (with the tags tucked in) and then return them for a refund.
Yuk!!Third time lucky on WW I hope :j

That's exactly the kind of response I'm getting from Woolies. What's wrong with these people?! I don't understand how anyone could not be completely disgusted at the thought of a shop selling dirty knickers!0 -
Send their customer services department a terse email/letter thanking them for their unsatisfactory suggestion to return the items to their store, tell them you have no intention of doing so due to the inconvenience and cost involved, advise them that you would have expected them to offer to collect the items and refund your money or replace the goods, ask them what they know propose to do to resolve the matter, point out you went to their premises on the basis you could purchase new goods of merchantable quality and expect them to do the running around as it was their staff that created the situation by trying to conceal the fact they were selling substandard goods.Four guns yet only one trigger prepare for a volley.Together we can make a difference.0

in addition if you took them back you could be given gift vouchers-save your OH going-but then you might not want to give them your custom.I find usually woolies has good customer service.0

If you paid by a chip 'n' pin card you could take them back & use your husband card as long as you know the pin.
I work in retail and we let customers do this.
Most of the time you'll notice that although the shop assistant does check the card number to make sure its the same card being used (some dont  )they dont look at the mr/mrs any more - as long as the correct pin goes in its fine. Its a refund after all - its not like you are spending money on the card.Sometimes it's important to work for that pot of gold...But other times it's essential to take time off and to make sure that your most important decision in the day simply consists of choosing which color to slide down on the rainbow...0 -
